Just starting season 3 and it's been a fun ride.

I thought it was another Christopher Guest romp at first.

Ozark was a breath of fresh air after coming up from that. I was hooked after 11 minutes and 56 seconds.

I've heard now from 3 people that Ozark is good, I just dont watch tv shows anymore :o:

Me either, usually. Last year when I watched The Punisher series in it's entirety, it was the first time I've gone through an entire series like that since since Six Feet Under in the early 00's.

^ With less self-discipline than you guys, I watched this through to the end ....

.... but, yeah, what could've been a two hour documentary was just stretched out so much. This is the new orthodoxy for documentaries: instead of explaining something concisely with a well-written voice over, we have to sit through hours of tedious witness testimony to advance the story. If you work as a film editor at Netflix, the first thing they do is confiscate your scissors.

I'll take that rec for Ozark, thanks !

I'm kind of enjoying Ozark because of it's unusual story line, but at the same time , I find it one of the most irritating progs I've watched in years:-

i) maybe it's an Ozark accent or my diminished hearing, but I regularly fail to catch what is being said and have to wind back. I'm going to blame this on Marlon Brando, with his performance in The Godfather: actors are obliged to adopt muffled pronunciation these days to show just how in the part they are.

ii) too many flashbacks or jumpforwards to characters who look a little too similar to each other. Anyone else find that confusing ?

ii) Couldn't the producers have paid a bit extra for more lightbulbs? There are so many scenes shot at night or in a half light. In my house, when the tv screen is almost dark, it acts like a mirror that reflects with surprising clarity the sunlight streaming through my windows so I can see almost nothing of the actual scene.

So yesterday, I was trying to watch Ozark, but found instead that I was straining to understand what a person I could neither see nor recognise was saying. Not sure I can be bothered to do that again today.

Instead I might watch Derry Girls again. This prog is also difficult to understand without subtitles, but is at least well-lit and funny.

The low lighting thing is often good for setting mood, but it also saves the production company a lot of money on makeup and setbuilding.

I always watch everything with subtitles anyway. Can only recommend that.
Didn't have any issues with flashbacks and mixing up persons. As the series continues there aren't that many anyway.
Yeah, it's a bit too dark at times but closing the blinds helps.
