What's On Your Kindle?

Hell, I don't know: maybe none of you guys have one, but I resisted for a long time, being one of those "I prefer the feel of a book in my hand" guys. Once I started to read for Karen though, and we ran out of books she owned, needed to buy more and had to wait for them to arrive, I quickly decided Kindle was the way to go. Once I saw how easy it was to use and how convenient it was to download books (and how cheap they were) I decided to get one myself. In the end, being a cheap bastard, I just got the Kindle app for my phone, but it works just as well. So what's on yours, if you have one, or any other reader? I'm always adding new books I'll probably never get to read, as they're so cheap, and here are the latest ones I've bought, just today. https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon....21i%2B0OsL.jpg The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (Edward Gibbon) https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon....1pfPlVahdL.jpg Bruce Dickinson - Maiden Voyage: The Biography (Joe Shooman) https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon....ffsWV%2BKL.jpg The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (William Shirer) |

Shirer is a great writer, TH; I think you'll enjoy his book.
My Kindle collection is pretty sparse---mostly free classics. |

I've had a copy of this saved on my phone ever since I was turned onto it. It's a great and inspiring read

What's a kindle?
|
I too, was reluctant to switch to kindle. The whole book shopping experience was something I enjoyed. Even if the book store happened to be crowded, it wasn't bad.
I mean, these people were shopping for books. It's not a pushy crowd. Then, 4-5 years ago, my kids got me a Kindle for Christmas. Still, reluctant. Books aren't cheap. That is, unless you browsed through the over 90,000 free book available at kindle. I got probably 70-80 books the first day. I'm building the library I've always wanted. Way easier to do it from my big chair than going out. The first time I put my finger on a word I didn't know, and the definition popped up, that was when I crossed over for good. Some books, if you highlight a character, it'll tell who the character is (i.e., Joe's nephew, or whatever) I now carry around over 800 books with me, at all times, 95% of which were free. My kindle may as well have a nipple on it, as dependent as I am on it. Anyhow, to answer the original question, I'm reading the Darkslayer, a series of fantasy books. |
Exactly how I felt. Now, instead of going onto Amazon or Ebay and saying to my sis, "What do you want me to read you next?" choosing the book, and telling her we'll have to wait for 3/4 days (more, if it's a weekend of course) for the book to arrive, to then find out she doesn't really enjoy it, we just page down, say "What about this?" We try it, for a low low price (often free) and if we like it, great, it's there immediately. If not, we go on to the next choice. A total revolution in book reading. I love too how it keeps your place without you having to put in any sort of electronic bookmark, AND if you need to access it on another device it will tell you where you stopped and ask if you want to resume from there.
Wonderful contraption. Now, if only they could make some device that would allow me to somehow communicate with people who are not within shouting distance, why, that would be amazing. :D |
