MB Video Game Classics: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Vote! I've not played this one a lot but I know it's regarded as one of the best in the series.
|
I can't vote on this one since I've not actually played it for an extended period of time.

I played this one a fair bit back in the day on my original Xbox. This game feels so broken, unbalanced and just generally not fun to play at all. I tried so hard to enjoy the game, but the game world is so boring, the game so buggy and the combat so mind bendingly terrible that it was a miserable time through and through. Not as bad as Oblivion, which is probably the dullest RPG I've ever played (and that's saying something).
People really like this game and I don't really see the magic. I played the hell out of Arena and Daggerfall, though :D |
A sort of mirror-game that dull people find dull, interesting people find interesting, and crazy people find crazy.
A dangerous world with a rich and bizarre culture. A goddess of possibly selfless nobility or possibly spiteful bloody vengeance, leading a brave champion to fight an immortal outcast who may be either a wronged friend or a villain, ultimately killing the heroes that saved and strengthened your homeland in a past life, and destroying your people through your actions in ways you couldn't have seen. Endless spells to create, super potions to brew, limitless possibilities of pushing every piece of the game in as many ways as you can imagine. And that's before you start playing with mods. 10/10 |
As a sneak archer Morrowind unmodded is incredibly disappointing. No crouch toggle? **** off. That's like all I do in those games.

And, come on, man. Killing the dancer lady and her invisible archer bro outside of Gnisis and using his amulet to basically become Predator was the best. |
I have that same version and it does not. I think you were playing it on PC.
|
Nope, it definitely does. Double click and hold down the left stick (can't remember if that was the default or my remap). It just takes awhile to get used to, 'cause you have to do it just the right way.
|
I don't want to hold down the ****ing left stick.

The ****, I looked that up months ago and all I got was links to mods.

^I think Oblivion is better than any other Elder Scrolls game. That's just my own opinion though.
|
this was the first video game I ever bought for myself and it's continued to be my favorite game and the one ive sunk the most time into by far.
personally I think its story is far more interesting than the newer scrolls games and what it lacks in polish (fighting mechanics, graphics, npc standing still all the time, etc) it makes up for in immersion and personality. this could be a combo of nostalgia and personal preference, but the wildly diverse landscapes and factions are better here. it also does smaller things like no fast travel (and by extension a very well worked travelling system), enemies not leveling with you, an infinite amount of spells and magic (levitating, water walking, jump etc that aren't present in later games always irks me plus enchanting is one of the best parts of morrowind), mortal npcs, amongst others that add up to a much better experience as well. on top of that axes aren't blunt weapons ffs and where the fuck have the spears gone |
starting out in morrowind can actually be super frustrating for that reason too. the dice roll combat system looks clumsy as hell when youre missing 90% of sword swings but damn if it doesn't feel great once youre dummying everyone that fucked you up in the earlier stages
|
That's one of the things I hated about it. Your character just feels like the most useless, geriatric old senile idiot at the start of the game. Your walking speed starts out ridiculously low as well. I also don't like the way the skill improvement system works. The game felt really grindy and boring to me. I really need an RPG to have a decent combat system before I can care.
|
In other words you require game mechanics to make up for your inability to immerse yourself.

Dragon's Dogma was a perfectly immersive RPG experience for me. I loved the environments and everything was just exciting and well crafted. Some of the most intense RPG missions I've ever played. Loved the forest areas and dark dungeons especially much. |
