MB Video Game Classics: Minecraft

It's really strange to me that we have Minecraft on this list, but at the same time, I completely understand why it would be up for a classic status. I'd say it gets a solid 4.5/5 for me. It's nearly perfect. Everything that it did when it was released back then really pushed boundaries, especially in that time where there really weren't a lot of big open world sandbox games that were good.

I think I only ever played it back when it was a free beta. Found it kinda clunky to build stuff, but I see the appeal. I'd rather play around with a real level designer for games that have that. I'm pleased to see how much kids love this game though. It engages your creativity, so that's nice.

I'm having more fun looking at people creation's on Youtube than actually playing it.

Like with almost all games so far, I didn't vote, because I haven't really played it substantially.

I'd say it definitely set the bar for what an open world sandbox game should be. Like I said, I don't think there were nearly as many of its kind back when it came out. To see that today it's basically used as an engine and not a game, it's pretty crazy to see it make that evolution. It's still popular today though so that's a big plus towards it.

I know DWV loves this game.

This still makes me laugh:

I played it for a bit when it first came out, or became popular. I was a total puss though and would play on peaceful most of the time just to mess around and build things.

That nether tho

5 stars.. the possibilities seem limitless right now and the modding community has some of the most creative and talented programmers I've ever seen.

For me though, it's really the figuring out how things work that brings me the most excitement. It is incredibly satisfying to figure out the proper chaining of machines, redstone, piping, etc to create complex automation of typically mundane processes.

That's like me when I used to play Age of Empries 2. I'd just build a large city in skirmish mode, then quit the game when the computer came by and wrecked my beautiful creation.

Finding fortresses there is a pain. If it weren't for that I think I could have a long, beautiful relationship with Minecraft.

Like DWV, I think it was pretty amazing the amount of content that was brought to the game as time went on. The modding community for this game is indeed one of the most creative communities I've ever seen with a game. Things like Sky Factory, Hunger Games, all of those made my communities of people. Plus, the game still holds up pretty well to today's standards, especially with how much you can do now. If you want to play a custom map, you can. You want to build your own? You can. Wanna play Pokemon in Minecraft? You ****ing can.
