Default MB Video Game Classics: Batman Arkham Asylum

The only one out of the series that I have played, but not yet finished. I plan to get back to it eventually and then go through the rest of the series. However, this game definitely sets the bar for what to expect in a Batman game.

And, if you feel the urge to discuss the combat here, keep it civil. That's all I ask. I'll even do the same as I know I'm part of that discussion.

Anyway, vote away!

Even tho i've not finished this, I'm still giving it a 5/5 because I've not seen any reason not to give it a 5/5.

Currently in Croc's lair and I was kind of dreading this part as I remember it being fairly nerve wracking but I wasn't prepared for just how much I ****ing hate this boss battle. It's boring, goes on for like half an hour too long, and it's far too easy to get insta-killed because the music starts and you're looking everywhere for Croc except the spot five feet in front of you. ****ing tedious.

Yeah it's really bad, worst part of the game by a mile. If they had replaced it with a Croc sequence that was actually fun I might honestly prefer Asylum to City. As-is though anytime I play Asylum I'm going to seriously dread this section. It's pretty close to the end too so you feel particularly obligated to get through it.

They made Croc so cool too. Legit creepy. Made me want to go read some comics with him in it but apparently he's one of those villains who's never had a truly great story.

The Titan henchmen boss fights get pretty tedious after while too. The boss battles in general aren't that great tbh. They definitely stepped it up for City. Origins' boss battles are pretty cool too even if they're not the most challenging. The Bane fights are a definite step up from Aslyum.

The Ivy boss isn’t terrible

But yeah they really stepped it up in City. The Mr. Freeze fight may be the best in gaming history imo

Yeah the Ivy fight is cool but I could have done with some boss fights that didn't involve henchmen. It's not an interesting way to do every single boss battle and is kind of annoying. At least Ivy will kill them on her own. And god damn on hard that battle is a bitch. If the game didn't have checkpoints during boss battles I might just say **** it and quit.

I remember really enjoying the Ivy fight with Catwoman in City though. I don't remember why I liked it better but City's bosses never made me feel frustrated like the only thing I wanted was for them to be over.

I think the Ivy vs Catwoman fight in City is just you battling waves of ivy-fied enemies. I don't remember actually fighting Ivy directly.

It's been a long time since I've played deep into City so I don't remember THAT well, but I think the Ra's Al Ghul fight was pretty tough and had multiple sections. Damn I need to play that game again. Once the Spider-Man high dies down I'll fire it up for my narrative superhero game fix.

And on that note god DAMN do I want an Arkham-quality game for each of the major superheroes. Spider-Man PS4 proves that companies other than Rocksteady can actually pull it off.

I wonder how the hell you could make a Superman game that gives you the feel of being a Kryptonian and doesn't depower him for the sake of easier gameplay mechanics.

Make it take place on Krypton lol

Otherwise its basically impossible as far as I can imagine

There have been rumors that Rocksteady's next game is actually a Superman game, but I won't believe it until I see it. If anyone can pull it off it's them honestly. Before Arkham Asylum came out I had a hard time imagining the perfect Batman game but they made it happen. However a good Batman game is certainly easier to make reality than a good Superman game.
