Yes.. they literally make their games for the braindead. Its not even a casual vs hardcore thing, they value accessibility over everything else so much that they make incredibly boring games for people who actually like having to think and make decisions. D3 did not start out as what it is today, it used to be much more like D2 and you had the option to make your own builds like every other ARPG instead of being forced into their gear sets.. not to mention the fact that its a Blizzard game which means massive resources and theyve done absolutely nothing with the game... Blizzard sometimes has trouble distinguishing between streamlining and handholding.

Heres a comparison over the past year or so...

POE (mind you these leagues come every 3 or so months)

Abyss League - new random world events, gear/sockets, 2 new bosses, ascendancy rework, new uniques/skill gems

Bestiary League - the "pokemon" league - catch beasts, entire new crafting system and items, 4 new bosses, crazy hard beasts in the "open world", new uniques/skills

Incursion League - design your own dungeon and expand/explore by killing architect, new encounters, new uniques/skill gems

Delve League - new infinite dungeon creates opportunities to never be able to faceroll all the content in the game(plus darkness mechanics, dynamite to blow down walls for secret passages, and torches to explore the darkness), new uniques/skill gems

D3
-Ancient version of the same uniques with better stats
-A new class you have to pay $10 to play
-Adventure mode
-Rifts/Greater Rifts (which require you to play only specific meta builds or youre excluded because they dont know how to balance anything)
-Cube to add unique properties to your items
-Uber bosses that arent even hard
-Edit: I forgot, THEMED SEASONS (aka the equivalent of POE leagues).. you know what they did? Double treasure goblins... that's it. They took a prexisting mob, made it spawn 2x as much, and called it a theme.

Am I missing anything? POE(a free to play game) puts out more content per season than D3 has put out since its first and only expansion. It's a failure of an ARPG compared to the competition.. I've never criticized it for being easy to get into and fun to dick around on, it's just severely lacking compared to other games in its genre. It's only as successful as it is because its Blizzard, not because its a quality game. Games dead, get over it. Just wait for Blizzcon this year and hope D4 is worth a damn.

You may be exactly right on all of these but points, but all of this only matters to the 1% that take the game seriously in a competitive sense. There’s still plenty of depth and TONS of experimenting with builds for the other 99% of people that just play the game through to the end a couple times and that’s it (like me). For that kind of player the game is incredible fun. I played through once with a friend where I was Wizard and he was Crusader. It was some of the best couch co-op fun i’ve ever had. We beat the game then stopped. It filled its purpose just fine for us

And thats totally fine but like most rpgs the game is designed for what you do after max level/main story and D3 fails miserably in that department. Id argue that most casual players go far beyond stopping after story mode and youre experience is more of 1% than the hardcore rift leaders.

I've played a ton of RPGs and it's pretty rare when I do end game stuff. But I won't disagree there. D3 isn't very good with end game content. After I beat it I was kind of done so...you make a good point.

The Batlord 09-17-2018 08:59 PM

Most RPG's are absolutely not about after the endgame. I think you just mainly play ones that are.

YorkeDaddy 09-18-2018 05:07 AM

I've played an unhealthy amount of RPGs and I've only dealt with postgame in the ones I REALLY love. Definitely would disagree that all RPGs are about postgame. Hell most old school RPGs don't even have a postgame.

DwnWthVwls 09-18-2018 05:23 AM

Name one mmorpg that isnt. Im not talking about console single player Rpgs.

Back on topic though what does D3 do better than POE for the casual only play the story mode and youre done gamer?

POE had 10 acts instead of 5 with voice acted lore items spread throughout the world. A crafting system that allows you to manipulate your gear as you go, and infinitely more skill choices. I give D3 two things above POE aesthetics and character movement is more fluid. Also POE has more challenging content along the way and interesting side stuff to explore.

Most people dont even play d3 story mode anymore because you can power level in adventure mode while farming mats to get you startes for end game.

YorkeDaddy 09-18-2018 05:39 AM

Well I have not played POE for starters

Diablo is on consoles which makes it pretty convenient for my group of friends and for couch co-op, so it's definitely got that going for it!

DwnWthVwls 09-18-2018 06:05 AM

Pretty sure POE is now on consoles also. Next!

YorkeDaddy 09-18-2018 06:12 AM

On Xbox One, which no one owns

And if it doesn't have couch co-op that would obviously destroy that argument pretty heavily

DwnWthVwls 09-18-2018 06:47 AM

Yeah im not sure. PC Master Race
