:yeah:
I resisted my fanboy urge to post bowie and radiohead suckin off the pixies and you come in and hit me with that. :p: He mentioned Sonic Youth which i like too but apparently they didnt like The Pixies. They mention it on a Vh1 article that i cant find but it was recaped by some ppl that saw it. Posted - 05/30/2004 : 13:29:43 Moore and Gordon are well known as thoughtful music zealots, so we played a little "who can it be now?" game with them. We spun discs without showing them the covers, and they guessed who the artist was. It inspired them to consider the link between Led Zeppelin and Joni Mitchell, the sophistication of Missy Elliot's sound, and the reason why they never listened to the Pixies. The Pixies – "Tony's Theme" – Surfer Rosa Thurston: "Toni's Thing"? What's she saying? Oh, "Toni's Theme." Kim: Is this some L.A. punk band? I don't know. Thurston: It's contemporary. Ok, is it the Kills? Kim: I've never heard the Kills. VH1: It's the Pixies. Kim: The Pixies! I saw their videos on TV but I've never heard a Pixies record in my life. Thurston Moore: I don't know Surfer Rosa at all. I know it's a classic. I shouldn't say this – but when the Pixies were around, I was not much of an enthusiast. I was into more far-out things. The Pixies to me were a pop-punk band. They were collegiate in a way. I remember when Nirvana was name-checking The Pixies all the time. I was like "You're joking." But they weren't, because they were buying bootlegs of Pixies concerts on the road. I was like, "Are you guys nuts?" [Laughs] -= Frank Black Forum =- - Sonic Youth talks about the Pixies |
Rollins praising Ween
Rollins shttin on U2 |
I'm mainly familiar with that interview cause Bowie talks about the Flaming Lips and Grandaddy, but he has masterclass taste when it comes to most everything.
I know you might admonish me for this Francis but I only am familiar with Surfer Rosa as it's the only Pixies album I own. So part of me's glad Moore mentioned that album and not another I don't know  |

"No. There’s only one kind of Tool fan. The Tool fan who thinks that being a Tool fan lets them into some big secret that nobody else gets. They think that only a select few posses the secret Tool decoder ring."

"For starters, there’s Maynard James Keenan’s (second stupidest name in pop music, next to Idlewild’s Roddy Woomble) halting, breathy, nauseatingly affected crooning. He’s like the Morrissey of hard rock. He’s also a deep, poetic lyricist, having made millions of snickering Beavis-clones feel like subversive badasses for playing songs about fisting in their mom’s minivans (to avoid a few angry e-mails, let me just humor you and say “the song isn’t really about fisting, there’s like… a whole other deeper level, man”)." |
Pfft that does sound pretty funny. I'll give it a read later tonight.

Wayne also appears in this doc giving Deerhoof and Lightning Bolt some praises. Idk much about The flaming Lips tho, they're one of those bands i keep hearing around my circles like Yo la tengo but I've never explored their music in depth |
The Flaming Lips are one of my all-time favorite bands. The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots both changed my life. I recommend them a thousand times over.
Also, that interview Wayne Coyne did with Brian Wilson can be found here. It's an interesting read. |
Interesting read despite all the misplaced question marks.

Yeah no clue what's up with that. I think Stop Smiling's website is fairly old and has some errors. Glad to know you parsed through them, though

Weird. Seems he resents Dave just cuz he went big time.
|
I didn't really see anything negative about Dave in Buzzo's story. Seems more self-deprecating than anything else.
|
Invoking Dave Grohl takes care of all the work.
|
My favorite part is when Buzz is talking about Them Crooked Vultures and says that Dave was in the band with JPJ and "somebody else." More people shouldn't give a **** about Josh Homme.
