And I don't want to be like person who says 'hey listen to this...' only for it to be a disappointment... if I had to give you a rec it would probably CttE and that would be shot down. :(

I guess I am lucky because I saw fanfare after Close to the Edge became a personal favorite. When I first heard it there was no hype or no negative opinions about the album for me. It was just me and the album with my all time favorite line-up of Yes: Squire + Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe; and Eddy Offord at the helm steering the band close to the edge of Prog's uncharted territory.

I was trying to think of interesting albums to add to this thread, and if you've never heard Hospice by The Antlers, I think that could be a cool addition.

It's definitely a more recent album (released in 2009), but there are a lot of people that would agree that it deserves to be called a classic, I think. It's a pretty amazing dreamy/folk/postrock album and I think you'd find it interesting.

I know you hate punk Trollheart but you should listen to some of the classic post-punk albums. Technically brilliant so you can't use that complaint this time and it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts! Have you heard Gang of Four's 'Entertainment!' or This Heat's 'Deceit'?
