![]() ![]() Dead City Emily: Marissa Nadler ('14) Emptiness is a vast ocean in which the apathetic drown! Do you ever wonder what being the last person on earth would feel like? Disbelief, anguish, agony, and helplessness; Topped off with rouge waves of despair, I imagine it's much like being the only person left hanging on in a relationship that's long since ended... The opening chords of the song, immediately transport you to this place, of torture, and agony, and as soon as Marissa Nadler's spectral voice, begins to sing, everything and everyone around you disappears, and you are alone, completely alone...Left to contemplate the darkest parts of your soul, and long for the days when things were the way they used to... The melody of the song, is haunting, and smokey, much like the ash after an atomic blast, thick and rich. The echo's,feed back, and reverb are perfectly placed, creating a beautifully haunting psychedelic folk song... This song has definitely made it in the running for best folk song 2014, and the year hasn't even really started so if this is any indicator of how folk is going to go this year, then I am so excited I can hardly stand it... Enjoy!
