Default Silhouette's Sounds

No obligations. Just try them. Tell me what you think. Or if you know them, collaborate.

I love this site and the folks I've met so far for breaking me out of my comfort zone. Maybe I can do that for you as well. Or maybe I can just post my favorite Rolling Stones songs. Hmm.. I guess we will see.

So I think one of my niches here at this site will be Classic Country. So lets kick my journal off with a choice little number called Little Sadie. Listen to this and then say that you don't like Classic Country.

SONG: Little Sadie
ARTIST: Doc Watson

Its one of those songs those awesome story songs that you can picture in your head. And maybe a tumbleweed or two.

"..I said, yes, sir, my name is Lee
I murdered little Sadie in the first degree
And first degree and the second degree
If you got any papers, won't you read 'em to me?"

Simple. Surprisingly dark. Some old school picking skills, and a great voice makes for a winner. And so short it leaves you wanting more.

So all in all, go get an old Model T Ford, a bottle of hooch, (hook up some sort of sound system of course) and drive really crazy down country roads in a thunderstorm with this blaring.

Also a good version: Little Sadie - Mark Lanegan, I'll Take Care of You album

SONG: Worrisome Heart
ARTIST: Melody Gardot

STEAMY! I wish I had the talent that this lady has in her pinky finger. Literally. She is great on the piano. And her voice is perfect enough that she doesn't have to try hard or overcook anything to sound good. Very authentic. I fell in love with this song/sound and listened to it so much, that the very same week I looked in my closet and found a trench coat and dark sunglasses and my dog took up smoking long skinny cigarettes. Good thing I'm not a man, I would have looked up and been 30lbs lighter with a long straggly beard and maybe an earring. This gal totally has that effect on me. Love her sound, love her lyrics. Goodnight from this same album is equally great too. She just has what a good jazz artist should have. Nonchalant and effortlessly cool talent. My beret is off to you Melody Gardot! Encore!!! Encore!! Andale, Andale! Arriba, Arriba!

Any suggestions for similar artists?

Billy Holiday comes to mind. Also, for some reason Imelda May, but I'm not sure why since she's more Rockabilly. Here's a great number she does with Jeff Beck:
