There’s my top 40. I won’t apologize for the lack of women. It’s merit based. I also think I know enough about African music to justify the absence of African names. Merzbow was the only name from Asia. Outside of Japan and Korea I know very little about Asian music. Ravi Shankar would have been a safe choice but he didn’t make the cut. We will now return to regularly scheduled programming.

That really is very hard to justify. Especially since Bach is widely considered the gold standard in classical music. Other composers that strong arguments could be made for include Mozart, Bartok, Stravinsky, Ives, Shostakovich, Lutoslawski, Vivaldi, and Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and Max Richter. That's fine, it's your list. Not to take away from what he's done since he really is great, but personally I would have bumped Skip James since you already have Son House and Robert Johnson on the list.
