A gothic metal album, with that album cover, recommended by Batlord and glowing reviews wherever I looked. Gotta be honest, I was pretty pumped to listen to it. But I am sad to report that I thought it was completely bland and lacked energy from beginning to end.

For starters, the lead vocalist is garbage. No personality at all and brings the vibe down as opposed to adding any value at all. It's also way too fucking long considering it's distinct lack of diversity in sound. As I write this I'm listening to it again and all I can think of is skipping every track once it has been scrobbled. Not a good sign. It's strange because I usually like almost anything that's in this scene, and it's hard to say what is specifically "wrong" in the music, but it misses the mark on every aspect musically. Nothing riffs, nothing vocals, nothing moody atmosphere and overstays it's welcome.

I would go through my favourite and least favourite songs, but nothing made enough of an impression either way. It's not bad enough to truly dislike anything on here, or good enough to give a serious thumbs up. Just plain and boring.

It's honestly their worst album (even though I like it). Allright, allright, The Origin of the Feces might be a hard sell as a superior Type O Negative album, but I like it more personally...

But I wouldn't recommend that you give another album a go. It's unlikely that you would connect with any of them.

Here's their most catchy song ever. You might like that. At least I know that I love it:

Don't know if you'd listen to a rec made by me, but here's one I'd be really curious to hear your thoughts on:

Judie Tzuke - I am the Phoenix

Awesome cover artwork. Seriously. I'm gonna have to check it out too, just because it looks like a 10/10.

It's a fantastic album. Like Beach Boys done with a Naked City approach.

Snail's House - Snö (2018)

Tagged: Downtempo, Bitpop, Chillstep, Wonky

Recommended by: Frownland

Rarely does an album cover so perfectly encapsulate the sound of an album. Bubbly, floating and colourful production, with a completely dream-like vibe. I could understand why Frown recommended it to me after like 10 seconds.

The first two tracks bounce and build nicely to the more synth-heavy third track "[snowdrift]", which sets the tone for the more wonky elements within the album that come later. "[waiting for you, waiting for you]" transitions very nicely into "雪の降る街で、あなたを待っている。", with some glitchy elements added here and there. Some tracks actually remind me of the intro tracks on Lune Rouge by TOKiMONSTA.

But if I had to describe this record, I would say it's as though edIT slathered Crying Over Pros for No Reason with honey, marshmallows and other assorted confectionaries. My sweet tooth goes deep, so this went down a treat.
