I mean I have a giant collection, hundreds of gigs, of digital comics on an external hard drive. Most of it I'll likely never read, but I don't care cause I just like having it. Not even just because it gives me the option to read them if I want, but it's oddly soothing to have a comprehensive library of things you think are cool. And this does not interfere with my buying of actual comics, nor does my physical collection cause me to delete digital comics since they're two separate collections and it doesn't matter if I have duplicates. To delete my digital copies would be to leave holes that would feel wrong.
Bold pretty much describes it for me. I like to own the things I like. I deleted my online music library. Nothing to do with aesthetic as far as main collecting reasons go. Plus, every collector knows the feeling of finding something rare that isn't usually seen, like a rare promo or a psych band that only pressed a few copies of an album in 1966 and then disappeared forever. It's addicting.

I can understand that. I've gone on irrational downloading binges for music and comics that had nothing to do with immediate listening or reading desires but simply because I wanted a thing in the moment and then an hour later I had another random urge and then a week later it's spiraled out of control but that's okay since now I have even more **** that makes me happy. And now I'm more on the physical side of comic binging and can barely restrain myself from buying everything under the sun simply because I know I don't have the money to do so.

I'm not as avid a collector as Joe but I like grabbing my favorite albums on vinyl. That is to say I rarely buy an album on vinyl if I don't already know it front to back. I'm more of a listen-to-the-whole-album-in-one-sitting type anyway and I feel much more tuned in to the music when I choose to spin the record rather than load it up on spotify or something. Plus hunting down an out of print album and having it shipped to you from the other side of the planet is quite thrilling.

I do the same thing with books, tbh. I have multiple copies of my favorites.

I also rarely buy re-issues. I like original presses or as close as I can get to it. I don't give a sh*t about "remastered" this and "mo-fi" that. I just want the record as it originally came out. That's the fun in the hobby for me. Digging through crates and finding albums and checking to see if they're original or late represses is fun to me. Mostly because you have to be a giant nerd to tell without using the internet so you can find $100 albums with $5 price tags because the person pricing didn't bother checking the press info.

Freddie Hubbard
Windjammer

Not the best Hubbard album but it's smooth and tastes like warm coffee on a fall day which is exactly why I'm playing it.

The Beach Boys
Pet Sounds

Customer just asked me if I'm a big Beach Boys fan because I'm playing this. Nope. We got in a 1966 Duophonic press version of this album and I have a $50 burger on the price tag. Wanted to hear what made this expensive. To be fair, most original Pet Sounds pressings hold their value a lot.

Dag Nasty
Field Day

Just came in. Had to pop it on. Never heard it before but I like it.

You're both irrational idiots tbh. Digital is superior in every way beyond having a big cover.
