Cranioclast ‎– A Con Cristal

Germany
1987
Dark Ambient

Thoughts: I'd call this Tribal Ambient, too, what with the pounding tribal drums and the almost ritualistic vocalizations surrounding the centerpiece percussion. This is a summoning.

Release info: Released on vinyl in 1987 (CoC / CoC 01, Germany).

The Hafler Trio - A Thirsty Fish

UK
1987
Dark Ambient, Musique concrète

Thoughts: Anesthetic for the brain, then locked inside with the loonies. Guy on one side of me is humming, the other screaming. And they seem each to know when the other is going to start / stop, jarring me and enjoying their little game. Dial tones and bleating lambs. This album dies with a phone call.

Release info: Released on double LP vinyl in 1987 (Touch / TO:9, UK), then on CD in 1992 (Touch / KUT 6, US), then again as a limited edition double CD in 2005 (Korm Plastics / paragraph 11, subsection 3, Netherlands).

H.N.A.S. & Mieses Gegonge - Abwassermusik
https://www.art-into-life.com/data/a...001_b6c555.jpg
Germany
1985
Experimental

Thoughts: Alice in Wonderland if Alice was Dante and Wonderland was Hell. Go from cavern to cavern, observe and/or suffer. Not the ear-rape some of these other records have been, but just as disturbing.

Release info: Released on limited edition (500 copies) vinyl in 1985 (Psychout / Psypro 005, Sweden) and re-issued on CD with bonus tracks in 2002 (Dom / DOM CD 77-16, Germany).

Déficit des années antérieures - Action and Japanese Demonstration
https://img.discogs.com/_9IUxcNpCUni...-8813.jpeg.jpg
France
1982
Minimal Wave, Experimental

Thoughts: Show me a villain who hath called Japan "the land of the rising sun", and I am sent to be revenged upon him. Either they got slopes to self-parody their tribal tones, or these frogs are ever-so slightly racist. Either way, I approve.

Release info: Released on limited edition vinyl (1500 copies) in 1982 (Illusion / IP 010, France). Comes with a screenprinted cardboard cover with hand-made background, so each copy is unique. Then re-issued with bonus tracks on CD in 2008 (Fractal / Fractal 333, France).

Tolerance - Anonym
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y0E-XdM-i9...1600/cover.jpg
Japan
1979
Minimal Wave, Experimental

Thoughts: I am untouched by this one both positively and negatively. There's just not enough here to form an opinion. I guess the spoken words parts have a kind of quiet desperation to them, and that fits the Js to a tee. This is what you're stuck with when you miss last train.

Release info: Released on vinyl in 1979 (Vanity / vanity 0004, Japan) and then re-issued on vinyl in 2012 (VANITY 004LP, USA).

Christian Death - Ashes
https://img.discogs.com/GAcsAK9xnKA1...-9817.jpeg.jpg
USA
Gothic Rock, Deathrock
1985

Thoughts: All right. There are those big 80s drums. This is the most accessible thing I've heard so far in this listening project, and "accessible" isn't always a compliment. In this case, it's a code-word for "kinda boring". However, the freaky female yelling in spots redeems it a bit. A lot of repetition on this record. The dark cabaret moments are the best.

Release info: Released on vinyl in 1985 in four countries...
USA: Nostradamus / IRD 014
France: L'Invitation au Suicide / SD7 (gatefold)
Germany: Normal / Normal 15
Japan: King / K25P563... then it was re-issued on CD three times, the last being the anniversary edition in 2012.

OK, I didn't completely know what you were talking about here
'cause I don't have email notifications on for PMs.

Anti-records that I have, that are flat, are mixed in randomly with regular stock
which is also randomly mixed together, so if I come across it, I'll let you know.
I have quite a few that need to be stored separately from "regular" albums.
They're more like art objects: a glue record or something encased in plates of
steel or wrapped in macrogrit sandpaper or cassettes wrapped in vinyl or
something else that doesn't make it flat or desirable to have next to another
album (such as the one covered in moss that should arrive any day now).

Looking forward to it, if you can find it. And as always, I greatly appreciate you taking the time!

Not sure if it counts as an anti-record, but don't you have that one Christian Marclay vinyl project that allows the listener to manipulate the grooves or something like that?

Zhanteimi 01-03-2019 05:48 PM

FWIW, the only "weird" vinyl I have is F#A#∞. The last groove is locked, so the ambient sound just repeats in a soothing drone until you pick up the needle. That's why I love falling asleep to this record.
