PAX (part 2)

Pictured above you'll see that Binding of Isaac was getting some love at PAX this year. It was pretty cool to see people playing it too. Some even for the first time.

While my first day at PAX was absolutely excellent, my second day there ended up being even better. Saw a lot of cool things, bought some stuff and got some free swag. So here's the pictures.

Since it was the last day of PAX when I went, the people representing Borderlands were giving away a bunch of free stuff. Including a mask, artwork, t shirts, etc.

Also went ahead and splurged a little bit and got The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia. Yes, it's as cool as it looks. I like it.

Of course, the highlight of the whole day was meeting the genius behind the soundtrack for Dead Cells, Yoann Laulen. He was such a cool dude in person. I shook his hand, told him how great the soundtrack is. He couldn't have been more excited to hear someone talking about it. Really cool and laid back dude.

Then I sent it to him on Twitter and he responded:

Overall, PAX was an A+ experience.

Games I've Been Playing

Although I definitely have a love for PC gaming, I've been doing a lot more couch sitting console gaming. It's been fantastic and far more comfortable. Given that the PS4 has some pretty sweet titles, I've been playing solely on PS4. Anyway, here's some games I've been putting some sweet time into:

Borderlands is still one of my favorite series of all time, and to get a revamped game of the year edition of the first game is pretty sweet. Especially since the 3rd game is coming out later this year. This allows people to get repumped up for the Borderlands series before the new one comes out. Going to be first in line getting it when it comes out. Will be writing a review here once I play enough of it. Anyway, I 100% this on PS4. Pretty stoked.

Remnant: From The Ashes is what you get when you turn Dark Souls into a shooter. And yes, it works. Very well. Gameplay is solid. Graphics are dark but in a good creepy way. Overall feel of the game is great. But it's definitely going to kick your ass. I have to be in a certain mood to play it because it's got that Dark Souls effect where it will just piss you off to no end. But the reward is so worth it. I intend on finishing this regardless of how long it may or may not take.

Most recently picked up Dragon Age: Inquisition and instantly fell in love with it. I played and loved Dragon Age: Origins but there were a lot of things I didn't necessarily love about it. This one certainly fixes, if not improves on those faults. This is most definitely the better of the two. A huge open world. Lots of quests. Lots of ways to customize. Really having a good time going around and doing everything. Reminds me of when I played Middle Earth: Shadow of War.

I absolutely loved Wipeout 64 back in the day so to see Wipeout Omega Collection on the PS4 store was pretty cool. i think it was part of the free game a month deal. Otherwise I don't know how much it is. But it's definitely worth it either. Been having a good time kind of reliving the old days of playing Wipeout 64.

That's about all that's been taking up my time lately. Dragon Age: Inquisition will most likely be my regular play while the others are sort of whenever.

I played through Dragon Age: Origins and loved it a lot. There were a couple things that were frustrating about the game, but it did enough things correctly that the faults didn't matter too much. Now, it had been a while since I touched a Dragon Age games even when the new releases came out. Just didn't have much interest. Not that I was against the series in any way. I just had other games to play at the time. I decided to check the PS4 shop yesterday morning and got Dragon Age: Inquisition for about 10$. From what I've seen so far of the game, I'd have paid full price for it. Easily.

The game basically takes most if not all of what I didn't love about Dragon Age: Origins, and fixes it. The combat feels more free, the world is humongous, and most importantly, it has a much more free feeling than the previous game. While Dragon Age: Origins had a huge world, it felt very linear in a lot of ways. Dragon Age: Inquisition strips away the linear mindset and lets you decide what you want to do and when you want to do it. I've been making the comparison to games like Marvel's Spider Man and Middle Earth: Shadow of War where the quests are there, you can choose when and how to approach them as you see fit. And right off the bat, the game just throws you into it allowing you to take on anything that you can take on at your level. And as you progress, more things open up. To put it in shorter terms, I just started the game yesterday and I've already got 20+ active quests going on. But I love that aspect of these kinds of games. It will most likely share the list of games that I 100% for that exact reason.

The combat in this game is so much fun as well. The abilities are mapped to the buttons on my controller so it's a lot easier to use them while hack n slash fighting against the countless enemies. And god damn, there are tons of different enemy types. Undead, warriors, bandits. If you want variety in a game, this one certainly has it. I know I've only played the game for a few days, but man I'm already impressed with how much content there is right off the bat. It's pretty overwhelming sometimes but it works in its favor.

It's also got me comparing it to the KOTOR series for the way the party system works. The game has dialogue choices much like a lot of games of this style. But closely compared to the KOTOR games and Mass Effect respectively. The dialogue choices are pretty great too and you get access to more as you level up and progress through the game. I've only had the people I started the game with but I already like them a lot. They're pretty powerful and varied in their skillset and abilities. Makes it nice to take on large groups of enemies.

I'll certainly be looking forward to progressing through this game and seeing just how massive it really is. I know I've just scratched the surface but it's pretty amazing to think about just how massive this game really is.
