Default Our Drums & Our Bass

I won't make this too fancy. This is a journal of Drum & Bass. Let's do this.

URBANDAWN - COME TOGETHER (FEAT. TYSON KELLY)

Urbandawn is one of those D&B producers I missed by a wide margin, sort of like missing firearms training class at the local penitentiary.

When I heard this song it single-handedly informed my perspective of D&B as something that doesn't have to be specifically Neuro, or Liquid, or whatever my past told me I expected D&B to be. It's one of those worlds between worlds that might never be explored beyond a passing glance, but I think it's worth a look.

Moving on. In a similar way.

HIGH CONTRAST - TIME IS HARDCORE (FEAT. KAE TEMPEST & ANITA BLAY)

I've known of High Contrast for a long time but this is the first time he actually surprised me. I was fully caught off-guard with this tune of his and it remains my favorite of anything he's ever done. I don't know why and I cannot explain it. It's something emotional, different from what you'd expect, happy but not overtly, fitting and with a vibe that those of us who came up on Drum & Bass can relate to but in a completely different way.

And then there's IMANU.

IMANU - Bloom

Young guy, bringing new development to D&B. I can't say that I'm angry, I still love the old stuff but...

Electronic music in general, to me, was always about progression. When something changes I judge it by its own merit, not against my expectation. IMANU is shaking things up in the D&B world and at such a young age I think it's only natural. I'm glad there's someone there to do that.

Might as well go into another IMANU track.
It's all about the vibe. I love the ways it's approached, not typical. The mood is painted.

IMANU - NOIR (BOP REMIX)

And then there are the GOAT team. With this, much more deep rave with it, but of a lot of their releases I'm thinking this is one of my faves if we're not counting classics. The feel on this is outstanding and you don't often hear a lead synth kind of song with D&B that isn't foghorn. This is a mid-set banger if I've ever heard one.

MEFJUS - FRACTURED (CALYX & TEEBEE REMIX)

Haha thanks.
Well, I'm not dead so things are great! Bought a house, got 2 cats, changed careers, working on an EP for release on a label, and more mundane things.

I return with an array of music with which to inflict upon this forum.

And very welcome you are too. I did what you did but in reverse; lost three cats. Sadly, from 2017 to February of this year, the last of our mogs scampered off this mortal coil, so we're now a house without cats. Sister gets progressively worse with the MS, but she's still alive and annoying me, so it can't be all that bad. Plankton had some serious **** with his house going on fire, so you might drop a note to him, poor guy. Other than that, same old same old. Bet it feels like you never left, huh?

Ah that's tough, sorry about your situation and Plank's. I guess all we can do is hope for the best, whatever shape that takes.

Definitely feels like I left. I had a different perspective back when I was here a lot. I grew up a little (not all the way, just a bit) and it's difficult to see things the same way. So when I come back here I have an expectation that doesn't match with my current emotional state so it creates a bit of cognitive dissonance.

Not to worry though, it would be worse if that were not the case!

As far as mixes are concerned, this is probably the best one you can find. It's absolutely masterful. Break is a producer but what he flexes here is real skill on the decks. To me, there is no better mix.
