Driving me Crazy!
 

While I was working at Marshalls in December, I heard a song coming on the 'radio' that I tried to figure out, but couldn't. Marshalls is a department store, so hearing lyrics over the radio as it's played through the whole store is a little difficult, and it didn't help that the singer was quiet.

I did manage to catch some lyrics, but a search of these lyrics proved to lead nowhere. The lyrics I'm pretty sure I heard were 'step into the hallway'. It may have been a recent song, but I'm not too sure if Marshalls was tuned into a real radio station or not. It would play Christmas music the closer it got to Christmas, and periodically chime in with the TJX Rewards Credit Card propaganda frequently.

The voice may have been a little on the ambiguous side, similar to Passenger. That, or it was more like a young male country singer without the southern accent or country-styled song. Just the voice is what I'm talking about.

I know this all seems vague, but I have some helpful summaries: May be a 'hit song' released in the last few years, most likely a male singer, slow-paced song, 'step out into the hallway' as possible lyrics, and the strings in this mystery song sound a lot like the beginning of Let Her Go by Passenger(but I think it was even slower-paced than Let Her Go).

EDIT: Another helpful hint I could add is that the song didn't seem to have a particularly happy or sad feel to it. It appeared to be rather mellow. And the vocals and string notes seemed to follow the same rhythm/chord progression at the same time.

Found a song with the exact phrase you gave. Rainbirds - Things Change. However its not really a remarkable song.

You're right, it's not a very remarkable song. Sorry to say, however, that isn't the song I was thinking of. I'm pretty sure it has a section that sounds almost exactly like the beginning strings of Let Her Go by Passenger, and is most likely sung by a male singer.

I don't mean to make this intentionally difficult to figure out, but unfortunately those aren't the song either... They fit my description nearly to the dot, but I can tell they're not quite the song I'm looking for. I'm surprised how many songs sound similar to Let Her Go. The third one you listed was close, but the singing is not that much louder than the music, and it's not quite that emotional. The second video has singing that sounds remarkably close to the song I'm thinking of. I wish I could be more specific, but I wasn't offered enough time to learn more about it. Ironically, the first 40 seconds of the first song sounds the closest out of any guess so far. The rhythm is the most similar, but it's still not quite it. The singing is quiet for the first 40 seconds, and the voice is similar. But I'm pretty sure the target song is sung in English, and the target song basically stays mellow through the whole thing. That first one has moments where it picks up. And remember, the target song has a part referencing a hall or hallway.

EDIT: I'd hate to pack all the effort onto you. It would help a lot if more people were in on this one.

I'm having fun on this. And this is crazy - but I've found more of them. This again might not be helpful because I didn't hear any 'hallways' in them, but now I keep hearing this melody everywhere, and it drives me crazy that there may be another one (the one you seek). The first one has a bit too much drum emphasis, and the second one has too much 'rock' about it. The others aren't it either. It's actually closer to Thelo Tossa Na Sou Po and Let Her Go than any of the new ones. Listening to these ones, though, has caused me to remember/realize an important detail about the target song. Based on my memory of it, which is very vivid when it comes to the rhythm the strings played, it seems to be little else except strings and singing. There might be some more, but not much. And it seems that the vocals follow the exact same notes as the strings, at the same time. And as I think about it, it could also be that the vocals are of a slightly deep male, but still arguably quiet compared to the usual. Let me put it this way: the vocals were so quiet that every time the song came on over the speakers, I just couldn't make out which words he/she was using. Please stand by while I attempt another method of assisting you.

Remember, the vocals follow the exact same melody that the strings do, at the same time. And the singing is fairly quiet compared to most songs. Also, this one is very mellow, through the whole song I'm pretty sure.

taking all the information given, which is really a lot, I must say I most likely never heard it :) We'll never know if the rhythm I play on virtual piano is the same one as in your head, but still nothing that matches your description comes to my mind. I'm going to play with it some other time. Maybe someone else will figure it out, and I'd like that because this song made me very curious.

I'm wondering if anyone else might be able to recognize or find the song based on the piano notes I included in an earlier post. I really wish I could give more information, but I haven't ever heard this song since.
