Male solo with cello accompaniment
 

So at 6:00am the other morning, somebody outside my house cranked up a car stereo playing what turned out to be a beautiful song that I've never heard before, but would desperately like to hear again.

I couldn't make out any words, and I don't know enough about vocal music to know what genre or era it's from (I'm more of a classical guy), but I could tell a few things:

1.) Strong male vocalist, mostly low-toned, but a few soaring highs

2.) Cello accompaniment, with (perhaps) some low-toned male voices humming accompaniment in places.

3.) Slowish tempo but not a dirge.

4.) Smooth, VERY ringing voice. Almost like a bell.

5.) Tempo, voice, and general sound reminded me of Elvis' "If Every Day Could Be Christmas." But was very distinct from that. (Come to think of it, the vocalist might have been Elvis -- although I think this guy's voice was more like a tenor singing a mostly-lowish toned song.)

6.) Parts of it also reminded me of a cello version of "Si Beag Si Mor," but again, very distinct from that.

7.) Verses seemed to be on the long side from what I could tell, and I believe there were three of them (could be wrong), with some musical variations between them.

8.) I think the whole piece lasted about 4 to 6 minutes, although I forgot to actually take note of the time.

9.) The mood of the music struck me as nostalgic, similar to those old Sottish or Irish ballads of battles (or loves) that were lost. However, having totally missed the lyrics, it's hard to say for sure.

Any ideas on what I might have heard?
