I barely even notice it these days because so many people use it.

I don't stop to pay attention to it until someone starts complaining about the use of it.

That's probably the only Britney Spears song I've ever heard that I actually find catchy. It's also kind of an example of why I don't tend to listen to her or people who are similar to her since the whole style of the song is very much aping something that has already come, grown old and departed among less well-known acts. I guess I feel like people like her are always very late to the party.

This is one of the few times she's guilty of riding a bandwagon, her earlier single had dubstep in it, and her 2007 album, Blackout, kickstarted the whole electo-pop fad. So in a way, she's following a trend she already set years ago. :laughing:

How could she have kickstarted "the whole electro-pop fad" in 2007 when it started in the late 90s/early 00s? That's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about when I describe people like her as late to the party.

The particular breed of nymphomanic club friendly electo pop Britney introduced in 2007 has been widely emulated since its release. No way, shape or form was that sound mainstream before 2007. Blackout is most definitely one of the most influential pop albums of the deacade. The ''electo pop'' of the ninties you're talking about is a different kind...at that time, Britney was pushing teen pop into the forefront, with Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera following in the wake of her success. Britney has set more trends in 00s pop music than most other artists.

Whether what she released in 2007 has been widely emulated or not that doesn't mean that she kicked off electropop. As I said before, it had already peaked and receded by then, not to mention the fact that even that music clearly owed a huge debt to 80s electropop. So one is pretty hard pressed to say Britney was setting any trends. It was done earlier, and better, by others.

How does that qualify riding on a trend? The videos you've posted convince me that you havent listened to Blackout, which is electro-pop revival. Please remember that electropop is a genre, Ladytron subscribe to it and use it a different than Britney does. It just seems to me that you're taking a knock at Britney without being familiar with her sound, genre or influences.

You're right that I've never listened to the entire album. Why would I have, given my initial comment in this thread? What I did do, after you told me you felt Blackout was such a trend-setting album, was go check out some of the singles from that album on YouTube. What I was immediately stuck by about the songs was how much they reminded me of tracks like the ones I posted, all of which predate the album by a number of years.

I don't really know what to say to this remark except to mention that it seems like a very odd accusation to make considering Britney Spears' level of popularity.

fad relating to pop music, obviously. Fad, not genre. And late to the party? Does that imply that anyone who plays rock music is late to the party because Led Zepellin got to it before them? This style of thinking makes no sense.


Umm, Gimme More, Break The Ice, Freak Show, Ooh Ooh Baby...sound like anything Ladytron have ever done? Umm, no. I own all of Britney albums and I'm a ladytron fan too...Ladytron are quieter, more sinister, less reliant on pop hooks. Listen to Light and Magic and Blackout side by side, they sound nothing alike.
