The first part of the album is growing on me, but Realpeople is amazing so far.

Love this album.

I got around to finally grabbing a physical copy of this last week. I like it, especially the Zapotec disc. But it had a hard act to follow as The Flying Cup Club is a truly wonderful record. For me the Zapotec record is a bit too short so therefore it is really only for the hardcore fan such as myself and would not recommend it as a place to start if one was a Beirut virgin. Therefore a vote of average from me.

Yet to get hold of it but i love everything else Beirut have done so far so i should imagine it'll get a positive response

i was disappointed, having loved his previous LPs. i didn't care for the realpeople side at all. and i would give zapotec very good, so i gave it an average.

Can't say I'm a fan of the electronic approach on the Realpeople Holland side either, it just doesn't fit them. I much prefer the backyard marching band fiesta feel they've got going on with March of the Zapotec, but I think the vocals are strong throughout both halves. I'll vote Average just because they've done better.. and this song isn't on it

everything from Beirut is amazing. (that's saying a lot because germans don't usually make that great of music)

swim 06-11-2009 03:21 PM

He's from New Mexico.

Stone Birds 06-11-2009 04:15 PM

well, they speak german in some the songs so i guessed german (they name their song, band, and album mostly from german words or places)

Gone Sugaring 06-11-2009 04:43 PM

The name Beirut is German? And somehow I missed the German sung songs. I thought March of the Zapotec/Realpeople Holland was fairly good, though a little disappointing after The Flying Club Cup and the EP I feel is superior to this one, Lon Gisland. I still can't wait until a full length album though.

beirut is also a town

 When I said "The name Beirut is German?" You seem to have missed the sarcasm, being that Beirut is not of the German language. Where in the world did you get German out of all of this? A town? More like a city, try the capital of Lebanon.

Hesher 06-18-2009 01:50 AM

A dude recommended this band to me as we were discussing Sigur Ros in passing... But he is also a big fan of Devil Wears Prada. *gag*

Worth it?

simplephysics 06-18-2009 10:24 AM

Yes, they're nothing like either of those bands, thank god.

some news story. it sounds german. i even asked the foreign exchange students. they thought it was german to (they're from germany).

Gone Sugaring 06-18-2009 03:40 PM

Then obviously you, the news, and those German exchange students are clueless.

simplephysics 06-18-2009 03:43 PM

..and If you heard 'Beirut' on the news they were most definitely talking about the city in Lebanon.

But all of this is beside the point, innit.
