i can't stop listening to this lately. it is certainly unique. the first listen through i was barely paying attention to it and i found it to be annoying. however, after a proper listen i realized that it was awesome.

Rainard Jalen 06-22-2009 11:29 PM

Yeah, i thought it was disgustingly, sickeningly over-experimental on the first listen, almost to the point of Marnie Stern. The funny thing is, that's really just a first impression. It's not actually the truth. What we have here is a fantastic indie pop record. Once you become accustomed to their sound, then the record's strong melodic qualities start to seep in, along with the beauty of the rhythms and harmonies, and the rest is history.

What most intrigued me about the record was how, despite being at the heart of it an indie/alt rock album, it somehow managed to be so fascinatingly hip-hop, soul and r&b. From the vocals to the rhythms to the scales, the influence of black music is rife and the effect is absorbing, captivating, irresistible.

I still think Veckatimest reigns supreme in 2009 and is unlikely to be topped by a damned thing, but Bitte Orca is a sure 9/10 if ever there was one.

I like this album probably the most out of the ultra-hyped "best of the year" bunch.

Who else absolutely loves the song Two Doves on this album? I think it is just absolutely beautiful. All in all though, I cannot stop listening to this album.

It's awful! Two doves I mean...:|

yes one of my least liked on the album for me too.

I think it's fair to say that the female vocals are the weakest link of DP...:0 I mean, they can sing, but their vocals (both in tone and delivery) are extremely average, especially when compared to Dave's. If he wasn't there to arrange it all (especially those acrobatics on Remade horizon)...They function as good backup singers but not as lead ones...:\

Two Doves was actually my favorite track of the album, but overall I loved all of it. Admittedly there are parts of songs that for me, don't quite work, but as a whole it's definitely up there. And I do keep finding myself coming back to this album.

I'm looking forward to listening to this album. I've just got to track it down.

Oh really? Aww, I had hoped it would be on of the better liked songs on the album. My other favorites are probably Useful Chamber and Cannibal Resource.

I think Two Doves sounds like a rip off (unless it was intentional or something) of the Nico sung "These Days" but with even more obnoxious vocals and string section.

Two Doves is my favorite too. It reminds me alot of "She's Leaving Home" from the Beatles. Excellent strings in it.

One of my friends was mentioning how "Stillness Is The Move" simultaneously sounds like it could easily be a pop radio hit, and something that would never reach the ears of more than a handful of fans. An interesting note on this album, which is equal parts pop and experimental.

Probs be in my top 5 for the year fer sure.

I hear allot of people calling out bands for lack of originality, but when they come across original bands they kinda throw them out the back door because they're "strange". For the most part, originality means that it's something you've never seen/heard before--in that sense it has to be strange or "expirimental". --unfortunately, those who market themselves as indie normally end up being the most unoriginal.

Bitte Orca was a pretty good album. It's original to a good extent, and mixes a few good ideas with a few tried ones. I'm not overly thrilled, but I'm moderately satisfied with their efforts.

peace out,
-nick

debaserr 08-29-2009 10:18 PM

yea i certainly think they have a unique sound.

lieasleep 08-30-2009 03:23 PM

i thought this album was fantastic. interesting, unique art rock that brings a lot to the table both instrumentally and vocally. top 3 of the year so far.

Queen Boo 09-28-2010 08:59 PM

Didn't download it because I thought the video for "Stillness is the Move" was racist or something. I forget.
Two songs in and I'm so glad I did. The vocals are pure joy.

debaserr 09-28-2010 10:04 PM

i especially like temecula sunrise after many listens.
