Julian Casablancas - Phrazes for the Young

2. Left & Right In The Dark
3. 11th Dimension
4. 4 Chords Of The Apocalypse
5. Ludlow St.
6. River Of Brakelights
7. Glass
8. Tourist

Not officially released yet (over the next week depending where buy it), but I am loving this already. A rich and varied pop album. I've said this about 50 times but I love the art design promoting this solo gig.

In the absence of a poll from this thread (because I'm a f*cking dope), you will just have to speak your brains if you have heard the record.

I've already mentioned it is a varied album: you get synthpop (the 11th Dimension single is good but is the weakest track imo), a kind of soul ballad fed through a screening of 'Tron' (4 Chords of the Apocalypse), an almost-country song with a brilliant Middle Eastern-style intro (Ludlow St.)... I am not covering everything, and won't attempt to touch on the lyrics, but each track has something to offer.. My only complaint at this point would be that it's too short.
Production's great too. People will probably accuse Casablancas of jumping on the 80's revival bandwagon with this, but I think he brings a hell of a lot more to the table.

I've listened to the whole album, but don't have an opinion yet.

My friend got the leak and he wasn't impressed. However, he's a snob. I'm really excited for this and as soon as I get a listen, I will give my thoughts.

First listen through i thought a couple of tracks were catchy but not much else was happening for me.

On second listen im liking the diversity between tracks and the unashamedly power-pop feel to it. He has managed to digress from The Strokes sound without straying so far away from it to alienate the majority of his existing fanbase.

The record won't offer too many surprises to those familiar with The Strokes. It's still very underproduced, lo-fi music but thankfully it isnt full of tracks that could have just been used on the next Strokes record and has a bit of a synth-pop, new wave vibe to it.

A very enjoyable pop album, i feel.

11th Dimension has to be one of the top songs this year, and a great video

As for the album its average at best.

I downloaded it yesterday, and gave it a couple of listens today, and I'm really loving it. A lot of catchy tunes, but that's not the only good thing in this album. The diversity is key of course, and it's good in all genres.
Sadly it's too short.. but I'll get over it.

Im glad you're liking it NND. Im still enjoying the occasional listen myself.
