There's three "above average" options and only two "below average" options... unbalanced poll makes me sad

True. Fixed.
THE STROKES - UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS (2011) Official video for the lead single. |
I love this album. It's very upbeat and has a sort of 80's feel to it. Casablancas sounds very good in this album, though I do like his solo stuff a bit better. The definitely blew me away with this release, I may have to give it a spin later today.

Pretty good energy for sure! I enjoy it. Not sure if enough to buy it, but we'll see.

I listened to it maybe 12 times, and so I do like it. However it gets less and less interesting all the time, which I kind of felt it would. Taken For A Fool, Machu Picchu, Under Cover of Darkness and Life is Simple in The Moonlight are all very good tracks, in my opinion. There's a little too much filler though.
I miss the way The Strokes were. Garage, lo-fi, and with a bit of retro swagger. Now they seem to be moving towards more 80's synthpop/new wave and thats fine, I actually feel they could be pretty good at it. I mean, Julian Casablancas' solo album was similar and I really liked that. However I think this album is good, but just misses the mark. |
I've listened to it once, and found most of it pretty much throwaway. Machu Picchu, Under Cover of Darkness, and Gratisfaction were the only memorable tracks. I'll sit on it and listen at least once more before I vote.

good for me
like the Cars' influences |
I was expecting absolutely nothing from this. I figured I'd download it and shortly there after delete but I really love the new wave turn that they took.
|
A. Wow, I always. Think swim is gone forever. Hello there ;)
B. So far I love what im hearing. I dont see a wild change from the songs on Room on Fire but maybe I should listen again. I don't know, sounds like the Strokes to me. |
I haven't totally absorbed this album yet, but I really, really love Macchu Picchu
|
I like this album. Machu Picchu, Taken For A Fool, and Under Cover of Darkness are my favorite tracks.

I don't think the change from post-punk to new-wave is super far leap but it's refreshing for sure. They're not tackling a sound they can't handle like you hear on the new Young Widows.
|
I really like this album and I'm voting "good". It's not my favorite album this year but it's sweet chill music. My favorite tracks are Undercover of Darkness and You're so Right.
|
After they let you stream Under Cover of Darkness before the album came out, I was pretty electrified. I also enjoyed the music video. Except when it was released and I listened to the full album, I felt a little unsatisfied. Maybe I was just anticipating the feel like from First Impressions of Earth.
|
Good. The new wave approach lacks some conviction, but there are still some good songs here.

Definitely no Room On Fire or Is This It, but I like Angles quite a bit. At the very least, Machu Piccu and Gratisfaction are two of the best things that they've ever done. Also, the production isn't quite as awful on this one as it was on their first two albums, which is good.
|
I liked it. I really can't understand why so many people found it disappointing the week it was released.

Never got The Strokes - but they inspire a lot of people...
|
I like the album. It was pretty good.I too also feel that Casablancas looks good in this album.I would like to buy this album for sure. One of the good music albums it is.
|
I liked the album but sadly not as much as i used to love all of the other Strokes albums even Julian Casablancas' solo album "Phrases for the Young" was more enjoyable than this, but "Angles" isn't a bad album by any means, it's just not as good as the reputation the Strokes have built up for themselves
|
^^only if they contain porn
|
I think this album is great. It's got a bit of everything, but the only thing i miss is the rawness of songs like Someday and New York City Cops. Still great though and I love Gratisfaction, sounds like a more guitary Queen.
|
Need to hear this, but I've been disappointed in all of my attempts to dig The Strokes. It just seemed like watered down garage-revival with a lot of production.

You'll be once again disappointed. The Strokes are the Strokes, take it or leave it. |
Yeah, but most indie rock is more or less at least worth a try. The Strokes were okay, just didn't live up to how much hype has surrounded them IMO.
|
They just give off a good vibe everytime I listen to them, could never have a frown on your face while listening to the strokes.
|
I still love this album a lot since it's release. It's still got that good vibe to it as I liked when I listened to it the first time. One of those albums that is just very very easy to sit through from start to finish without feeling like there was something missing or left out.
|
it was the first Strokes I got and i worked backwards
cos i didn't find them that interesting in the halcyon days |
^I dove into their other work as well. Not something i've stuck to doing for a while though. Just never had the motivation.
|
^^found "Is this it?" to be above average, really
i still prefer Angles |
^ That's an interesting... What's the word here.. Eeh.. Angle!
The highlights of Angels for me is definitley the last two tracks, Metabolism and Life Is Simple In The Moonlight. The lyrics on those two rawks. |
