I can't see any reason to listen to this over say already established legendary acts such as Bob Dylan.

Well considering Justin Vernon's a much better singer than Dylan, that's a pretty solid reason to listen to it.

To maybe, expand your tastes beyond generic rock stars.

Got this a year or two ago. Never heard of it before then, but I like it alright. I got it on vinyl, which probably effected how I listened to it, but still, I think I could dig it on headphones or on some nicer stereos.

4/5

I have really tried to like this album after loving For Emma but it just doesn't do it for me. I gave it yet another listen the other day and the karaoke grade synths all over it really detract for me. Such a disappointment.

I honestly don't think it's a *bad* album. I was completely blown away when I first heard "Perth", but I kinda thought it was a downhill slope from there (except "Calgary, which I really dug for some reason). I honestly like For Emma a heck of a lot more. Probably about 3/5.

Well, I would disagree, though I've never heard Justin belt it out without a whole lot of effects and whatnot, so who knows. His studio voice is pretty sweet anyway. In any case, veridia is far off the mark, as this album doesn't sound even remotely like anything Bob Dylan has ever released. Judging from this album alone, they are two completely different artists, even if both fall under the folk umbrella. I give the album 4/5, by the way, it's my favourite from 2011. :)
