Is Taylor Swift mediocre?

Is Taylor Swift mediocre? It is this phrase that I have been seeing quite often on the Internet lately. But I don't care about those who think so. Those who write this are just jealous of her. She is young, talented and beautiful. She has a large number of awards and achievements. She is worthy of love and admiration. And I treat her work with love and respect. And those who don't love her probably only love themselves! And we hope that she will continue to delight us with her songs!

jadis 12-14-2023 01:39 PM

If you're not a spambot this should be fun

Lauri131 12-14-2023 04:50 PM

I would leave these questions to the professionals, it's not been mathematically proven yet, and the historical merit shows that public discussions on such subjects rarely result in useful conclusions :)

mjolnir 09-17-2024 09:45 PM

is it possible that people love her image more than her sound or that they love the idea of her?

Buckeye Randy 09-18-2024 02:00 AM

My age has allowed (forced?) me to see many hyped acts over the years. Something bigger is always around the corner.

It's not unusual for people to question if somebody 'deserves' to be as popular as they are. I try not to dwell on it, I just try to avoid it.

Drjohnrock 09-18-2024 11:34 AM

Good, bad and mediocre musicians are in the eye of the beholder--or is it ear of the beholder in this instance? I can only speak for myself. Ms. Swift is undeniably talented. But with the exception of a couple of songs (one of them, All Too Well, is really good--the extended version justifies its length), I don't find her work all that interesting. Then again, I'm too old to be in her "demographic", so I'm not the intended audience.

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 09-18-2024 04:00 PM

She's OK.

lynette 09-18-2024 06:50 PM

I like her

Taylor Swift is less liked than Trump, poll finds

The music always seemed utterly mediocre to me. The passions she provokes I'll never understand. But some of her fans I know IRL are very fine people.

Yeah, I wouldn't have posted it if it was a poll conducted by the New York Post but they credit the poll to 'Source: New York Times/Siena College'

I don't like a lot about Taylor but ya gotta admit she can write a fine song sometimes, the early country stuff was the highlight of her career IMO.

Can't forget also that it's basically proven she used 4chan, maybe she sees this thread too :0

And there's no way in hell she's more disliked than Trump. Will not believe that obvious lie.

That being said I don't like how she's progressed the girlboss capitalism agenda. Sorry about it but her politics are extremely messy she's done a lot of good but a lot of bad as well and ignoring/silence on large issues has painted a bad picture of her for me.

But she has some good songs. Can't lie

NateShadefall 12-11-2024 04:49 AM

She has some good songs, but overall, her music feels a bit mediocre to me, and I don’t quite understand why she has gained such a massive fanbase.

No, Taylor Swift isn’t mediocre, she’s a talented songwriter with massive impact, evolving styles, and a global, loyal fanbase.

90GrungeForever 05-01-2025 11:06 AM

A lot of her songs have the same droning elevator music quality to them. But ya gotta give credit where credit is do.... she writes the majority of her music and is just a machine when it comes to work ethic. And at the end of the day at least she hasn't become some cracked out popstar like Brittney Spears *barf.

Rexorcist 07-11-2025 10:01 PM

With the exception of her surprisingly grand performance in the otherwise jarring Cats, I've always considered her "okay." Maybe an albums marathon will change that. Heh, 15000 albums and not a single Taylor Swift one.

jadis 07-19-2025 10:26 AM

Anyway

Every single person ever born was a product of their time, Mozart and Nietzsche included.

Her music is only remarkable for how bland it is.

h4lcy0n 08-11-2025 02:25 PM

She's definitely talented, and has carved out a nice niche in the market. So much so that her music has lost authenticity in favor of ever-tainting mass appeal. I doubt it's her fault, she's an institution. A parasocial pillar for many people. I mostly feel bad for her superfans that adore her glossy, superficial breakup anthems, etc. but that's from me assuming they're not really looking for music that reaches a bit deeper or further. They do say ignorance is bliss.

That's all to say her music does make me yawn. I'll be waiting for her Yellow Submarine or the like.

Taylor getting in the news cycle today

lol

I sometimes envy the type of person that can be moved to tears by a Taylor Swift song. Life must be so simple and full of blissful ignorance.

AFX 08-12-2025 11:53 PM

Like just a complete shallow pool of emotional depth

jadis 08-13-2025 03:52 AM

Got a push notification today from the French radio promoting this hot new podcast series, about a dad taking his 13-year-old daughter, a massive Swiftie, to a TS show in the US and, I presume, learning some thing or other about America and human relations. They have the best podcasts but I think I'll give this one a miss
