Altasian Cousin is criminally underrated, one of my all-time favorite Moz songs. From the new record, My Love I´d do Anything for You is easily the best. Best song he´s done since Years of Refusal.

Morrissey for me is one of the more complicated relationships I have with any artist. He has such a lot of bangers, more so than what I find in the Smiths discography. Right from the start, I think he proved with Suedehead that the most magic ingredient in Smiths was Moz, despite some people objecting to that notion.

I also think the man is by and large a narcissistic tit who writes hilariously idiotic lyrics. For me, it's the blending of these conflicting feelings which gives being a Moz fan that extra pzazz.

Anyway, since this thread was significantly active, he's made at least one more banger. I really liked the single Spent the Day in Bed from the album Low in High School (2017).

The same album (deluxe version) also has a very decent (imo) cover of Pretenders' Back on the Chain Gang.

I never found him boring personally and it's fun to see such a good single from him so late in his career.

The album is quite decent, at least if you condense it down to the first half or so. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wasn't already a fan, though.

Sure, we don't have to agree. I do agree that they're funny, like his blatant narcissism in The More You Ignore Me or just the phrase "you're the one for me, fatty". I often find him somewhat condescending towards listeners in various ways, like in the single above where he sings the lines "no bus, no boss, no rain, no train - no emasculation, no castration", insinuating that to him, having to go to work is to be less of a man.

He's always been a little heavy handed with subjects, but I think his gripes were at least a little more charming back in the day. Today, he comes off like an old grump (example from his latest album).

Add to that his rightist views and public blunders that he doesn't seem very apologetic for, like calling chinese people subhumans.. it's like the sullen romantic personae that I think a lot of people viewed him as soured a long time ago.

If you don't think having to go to work for survival is emasculating then you're as privileged as Morrissey.

As privileged as Morrissey who can spend his days in bed and just be pleased by how he doesn't have to provide for his family by doing something as emasculating as working?

If you say so.

As someone who apparently has a job they don't hate.

Now you just sound like a bitter, old Morrissey.
