So what exactly makes you think you're qualified to make any sort of judgment regarding an artist whose genre you don't appreciate?

Lyrically, I get tired of death metal bands singing about Satan.

Pop artists tell you what you want the modern public wants to hear. That way they can bring in the big bucks.
As opposed to metal bands that don't cater to teenagers with angst issues?

I suggest the Rihanna quit the whole bussiness because she doesn't really do anything good. Maybe she could go neo-classical or something, but I would doubt that. If she had a better voice I would suggest her to join a band, but I don't think they would accept her.
Again, you feel qualified to spout bullshit on what basis? Do you see me commenting on your favorite metal bands? Take my queue and stay away from topics you know nothing about.

Admit it...Not only are the lyrics stupid(That's already been adressed), but her voice is incredibly immature. Um-br-ell-a, when it's actually um-brell-a. I like the beat and meolody but beyond that...

Ok, then give me a lyrically more challenging and vocally superior contemporary mainstream pop alternative.
I love her voice, I think it's fresh and cool, and she appears to be aware of her vocal boundaries, unlike Beyonce that thinks she's the new Aretha Franklin, she doesn't pull any vocal-masturbating stunts that make her sound like a cat being strangled.

When there’s sunshine, we’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we'll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella

Those lyrics aren't that bad, and yes i'm much more qualified to judge lyrics than you.

Lyrically, I get tired of death metal bands singing about Satan.

First of all I appreciate every genre, even pop. I really only like the original pop artists though because the rest are nothing, but crap.

Second of all death metal does not always talk about satan. In fact a lot of them don't talk about satan. I can get so many people to back me up on this that it isn't even funny. That stereotype of death metal is used so much even though it even lacks fact to back it up. I don't quite understand.

Not really the metal I listen to. And everyone should stop using metal as a term because it is so general. I mean why should Avant-Garde Metal and Thrash Metal be considered similar enough to say that they are practically the same thing?

Start commenting on my favorite bands because I don't care as long as you back it up with good reasoning and not go off on some rant about how anyone can do a good death grunt because they can't. And how can I not know something about pop when I am bombarded with it every day?

Why do we have to pick a mainstream artist?

Then it shouldn't be too difficult for you to name a few better alternatives to Rihanna.

I was merely using the same kind of stereotyping you used previously:
Quote:

A. Breaking up
B. Thinking about that person
C. How good that person looks
D. First time they saw them
to demonstrate just how retarded your argument was. Obviously, not all pop songs are about love, in fact, the song in question is (if I'm not mistaken) about friendship...

You mean like when you discard all contemporary pop based on snobby generalizations and prejudice? Hypocritical much?

Because you stated you don't enjoy the genre, call me stupid, but that doesn't exactly make you qualified to judge artists belonging to this specific genre...just like I'm not qualified to utter crap about jazz, or METAL.

Because I know a good number of indie alternatives to mainstream pop, but that's not the topic of this discussion.

What exactly makes you more qualified to judge lyrics than me? Anyway, I just find the Umbrella analogy to just be incredibly stupid. She never even says what exactly she's protecting Jay-Z from with this Umbrella of hers! To Adidass I said her voice was immature not bad, and what else does pop sing about besides love? that's the whole point of the genre! It may be a stereotype but it's true.

Don't Stop The Music

Apparently "Don't Stop The Music" is Rihannas new song?

The best song of the year so far!!!

No it's not. what about the other obvious pop topics: A sunny day, a good time, a party, the list goes on and on.
