We bought into the Beatles through out their entire career where as with the Beach Boys there were chapters of their career that most fans I do not believe could grasp. They basically went from a band that played great surf pop songs to a band which even some of the members did not buy into..........Smile is a very complex piece of musical songs which in my opinion was a hard sell to most Beach Boy fans.

Ran across a couple cool Brian Wilson-related videos while scouring YouTube yesterday.

Al Jardine posted this on his Twitter page--it's a preview of a documentary. The full song is also on YouTube.

I didn't even know this performance happened until yesterday. It's probably one of my top five Beach Boys songs, and Eric's guitar sounds sooo good. It's a perfect version.

Lucky you! I'm going to see it tomorrow or Tuesday. Nearest theatre playing it is an hour away.

Thanks to Love and Mercy, The Very Best of the Beach Boys has popped up to #136 on the Billboard 200 (was at 181 last week), and for the first time in who knows how long, Pet Sounds has appeared on the charts at #182:

Here's the setlist of the Brian Wilson show I went to last night, if anyone's interested. I'll try to get a review up within the next few days.

I really do love the beach boys and just recently saw love and mercy which was great. The funny thing is though, that while Pet Sounds is definitely a masterpiece of 60s pop, to me it sounds wayy more dated and less fun to listen to than the surf pop stuff that came before it. I don't know why, but it's really hard to listen to that record all the way through.

I've only heard like two songs about them, but they're both certified jams.
