Queercore

I've been listening to some Pansy division lately and though I'd see if any of you thought this kind of music is actually good. PD are the only queercore band I've listened to, and I definatley understand why it's been looked down upon on othe rplaces I've been on the interwebz. The music is nothing groundbreaking and it's pretty much the same as every Alt Pop band of the 90's, except with silly, sometimes humourous lyrics about...well...gay stuff. Opinions on bands/the movement in general?

The only song I kind of like by them that was on youtube:

ugh.

queercore is kinda like the gay man's riot grrrl...in that if you're not homosexual there probably isn't much appeal you can find in listening to the actual music. i suppose this is why musicians with a political agenda suffer from the inability to be competent songwriters. using your sexual identity to define what music you play is somewhat less than ideal.

i'd like to hear what might be considered a definitive queercore album, if there are any fans here to prove that there's something substantial to the movement.

unless you're canadian in which case PD's 'Manada' is a hilarious tune hahaha

but yeah the idea that this is a *-core movement is rather pathetic. if the only reason your band is getting attention is because of the sexual preferences of its members it means your band sucks.

The wiki page basically lists any band whose members are gay as a queercore band. I've never heard of this movement, nor do I particularly like the song you posted but it appears The Hidden Cameras could fit in here, and they're a fantastic pop band...(:

Does my love of Simply Red, Beautiful South & The Lighthouse Family count? Although their lyrics aren't about shirt-lifting.
