Yep. My favorite song of 1982 (even though I'm not really a huge synth fan)

As a massive lover of all things synth, it's a top tenner for me as well. Glad we can agree on that!

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate synth or anything like that. I'm just more of a folk-rock/college rock guy.

Sometimes a song is more catchy than you actually want it to be. That's the case with Tainted Love by Soft Cell, which was a big hit in the UK: hear it a couple of times by chance on the radio or a pub jukebox and you won't be able to get it out of your head.

So, if you don't know this song yet, you have been warned: it may live with you for longer than you want:-

It's actually a cover of a 60s R&B song, both versions are great in their own ways.

Interesting to hear the two versions side by side!

For the record, the Soft Cell version was released in 1981. Four years later, and here's another song that was inescapable if you lived in the UK in 1985:-

And yes, this is also a cover version of a song, this time by Randy Crawford. Is that what the 80s were best at? Putting a modern gloss on older material?

The mighty Tony Thompson on drums.

"Samples weren’t even around back then. So, bottom line, the sound came from a good kit, hit hard, in a nice live room." - Tony T.

That was a very cool project. Did ya know that Tony and Robert died within two months of each other back in 2003?

Loved this.

No, I had no idea. As you probably already know: Tony idolized John Bonham and emulated his big sound.
