Tata Young - The Britney Spears of Asia (one of the biggest stars of the planet)
http://img.perezhilton.com/wp-conten...young__oPt.jpg Tatas debut English album with Columbia Records I Believe hit 9x platinum in her home country; achieved the amazing feat of selling over 300,000 units in Japan as a new artist; and struck Gold in many Asian countries. I Believe went on to sell nearly 1 million units across the Asian region. During the same year, Tata also sang the theme song to the Bollywood blockbuster film, Dhoom, whose OST album sold over 800,000 units in India, a phenomenal success for a soundtrack. At 25, this 10-year music veteran has already sold more than 12 million albums and continues to be a symbol of energy and change for the Asian music industry. Temperature Rising, Tatas 2nd full length English album and the one to help her spread her talent to the world. The album features scorching 1st single El Nin-Yo which hit No.1 in all major charts in Thailand upon release and across Asia. Just back from a hugely successful launch in Japan, Temperature Rising has already shipped 50,000 units and is well on the road to another success in the worlds #2 music market. Elle Magazine named her one of Thailands 10 Most Influential People and Asiaweek selected Tata as one of 25 most influential trendsetters in Asia. |
Nice :)
But she doesn't really seem like a Britney Spears to me. Although I do enjoy the energy she puts out in the second video. Her performances must be quite lively. |
wait till you see her early stuff:
|
I can't see how somone who's success and profile doesn't stretch any further than Asia and India can be called "one of the biggest stars on the planet".
|
I like her music..but if you ask the typical pop fan in the US who she is..they won't know.

doesn't make her music any less lame or generic though. |

And the end of your comment, just awesome, pop is pop wherever its played, lol |

glad you liked my burn at the end of the other comment hahaha |
Thanks for introducing her, but she's not the number one pop star around because I have not heard of her! She's lovely. Kind of reminds me of Cheryl Cole from Girls Aloud.
|
One of the biggest stars on the planet, and just now I found out she existed.

It really makes me wonder what people in other countries think of our pop stars (especially the wtfs at Lady Gaga).
|
Yes I have heard of her, a lot of Chinese/Taiwanese popstars have covered her songs (not very well I might add).
Ayumi Hamasaki is also huge in Asia. Check out her live performances on Youtube, the stage setup is a sight to behold, someone has been chucking money at it. |
As far as I'm concerned, she's not like Britney Spears (I mean Britney in her prime).....Britney was a pop entertainer. One of the things I think often set Britney apart from some of the other pop chicks competing was the fact that she was marketed on sex appeal and also heavily relied on dancing in everything from her music videos to her live performances. This girl is kind of sassy and her songs have that slight plastic pop sound necessary, but I just don't get a Britney vibe at all. If anything, I'd say she reminds me more of Christina in a far toned down sexually, less OMGHERVOICEISAMAZING way.....
Also, I just wanted to add, the only Asian pop artist I listen to is Utada Hikaru, and that's because I accidentally stumbled across her English song "Simple and Clean" a couple years ago, then somehow ended up listening to her English album Exodus, then a good chunk of her Japanese stuff (even though I can't understand it, lol), and have been loyally following her ever since (i.e. with her new releases, videos, etc.).....If I could choose any Asian pop artist to be successful in North America it'd easily be her, followed by that Korean artist Rain. |
britney spears really ?
to me she looks and sounds like a clone of J.Lo |
