perfect perfect perfect. I grew up with them and still am not bored with this album. Bongos, dude!
Aim and Ignite - fun.
What you get when you have a fantastic vocalist and songwriter pair up with an indie multi-instrumentalist god. Undeniably catchy.
Origin of Symmetry - Muse
Best album by one of my favorite pop bands? To quote one of their song titles, Yes Please

Yes! Excellent choices. I too grew up with Guster, though I used to shun their earlier work because it sounded less polished, I've really grown to love it.

You know, I really do think I prefer Hunky Dory to Ziggy Stardust.

You're not the only one. Ziggy's a pretty good album, but nowhere near one of my favourite Bowie efforts.

Like others have said, I consider pop as something (generally) happy, radio friendly and more than anything, catchy as hell.

Great as they are, neither Kraftwerk or Bowie's Low are any of those things, IMO.

Here's mine:

1.) Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys
2.) Please Please Me, The Beatles (here as more of a pop blueprint than anything)
3.) Arrival, ABBA
4.) In Color, Cheap Trick
5.) East Side Story, Squeeze

Honorable mention:
Nick Lowe, Jesus of Cool
Gin Blossoms, New Miserable Experience
Raspberries, Raspberries
Sloan, One Cord To Another
Big Star, #1 Record/Radio City
The Cardigans, Life
Shoes, Shoes Best
Graham Parker, Squeezing Out Sparks
Elvis Costello, Armed Forces
The Knack, Get The Knack
Utopia Parkway, Fountains of Wayne

Ducey, I always knew you love him!

As far as pop goes, I'm not too into it but there's been some quite good music in this genre.

Olly Murs - Olly Murs
Songs About Jane - Maroon 5 (pop rock counts too)
Celebrate Me Home - Kenny Loggins
These Streets - Paolo Nutini
Minor Earth | Major Sky - aha

I feel guilty about some of those, but I've been listening to all of them quite a lot and I enjoy them, which is what matters.

 Only Justin Bieber? I know you like his music but surely there'd be another pop album from someone else in there?

Surell 02-06-2012 09:47 PM

Smile Sessions five times.

starrynight 02-07-2012 04:48 AM

No particular order

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [Abbey Road had more 'rock' in it]
Love - Forever Changes
The Kinks - Something Else by The Kinks [probably more 'pop' than Village Green]
Various – A Christmas Gift For You From Philles Records [aka Phil Spector's Christmas album]

That'll do. No doubt there's many others I didn't remember immediately, but I can live with that list.

Surell 02-07-2012 05:17 PM

I take it back!

Smile Sessions three times then This is Happening and Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem. No particular order.

Seal _ selftitled debut / 91.

Ive been listening to Seals debut album from nineteen ninety one. Crazy being one of the more popular singles from the album. But that is just a sample of all of the great songs on a good debut album from the early 90s.

A double album of finely crafted pop songs from a great band at their peak. I love XTC dearly but I don't think any of their other albums come even close to touching this one.

It's a great album but it's crap vfm compared to some double albums. Look at The White album. It's got 30 song and runs for nearly an hr and a 1/2. English settlement had 15 songs on it and runs for 69 mins!! Not good enough. Esp. side 2 which is only 13 mins. Either they should have cooled their boots and written more songs, bunged a 10 mins avant garde piece of crap on it and a cover version or something and bunged that out or they should have cut it down to a single album.

Actually, back in '82, there was a one-disc release for The US, Spain, and New Zealand. Would have liked the whole thing where I lived back then, though.

Strange they didn't use Snowman as the final track as on the dbl version. I'd have taken It's only Africa and No thugs in our house and Melt the guns off and put Fly on the wall, Down in the cockpit and Leisure on in their stead..

Soulflower 09-09-2012 03:40 AM

In no order:........... I kinda cheated with the MJ albums but its impossible to just narrow down to just FIVE!

Stevie Wonder- Songs in the Key of Life
Marvin Gaye- Whats Going On
Whitney Houston-Whitney Houston
Prince- Purple Rain
Michael Jackson- Off The Wall/ Thriller/Bad/Dangerous/HIStory

musicsbiggestfan 09-09-2012 04:04 AM

Even though I don't know if Marvin Gaye is pop, Marvin Gaye is so good.

Jess Smith 09-09-2012 11:37 PM

Gaga is defs up there on that pop chart

Jess Smith 09-09-2012 11:38 PM

But I would also have to say that Maroon 5 is doing a good job of integrating into pop....No? Yes?

tonyttt31 09-11-2012 09:42 AM

1 Pet Shop Boys - Actually
