That song was a mega hit on the continent. Fake was a Swedish band.

How to forget Desirless? (aka Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop). Not very strong for a French guy! :p:

I was more into Thomas Dolby (more innovative), but Howard Jones' first two albums did have some moments, and even if the "Life In One Day" video was a bit much of trying to get the message across it still at least stood out. Once he turned into Easy Listening, however, it was done and over with.

I can't believe I haven't seen this thread before. I absolutely love synth pop, so I'll repeat what I posted in the new wave thread, 'cause these are such great songs: Visage and Gary Numan

But I'll add something more: Soft Cell

My favorite electro pop is the one with a more raw sound and a punk immediacy like Fad Gadget and those German EBM bands like DAF and early Die Krupps

I have to second on these! This is still my kind of Synth Music.

Agreed! Gentlemen Take Polaroids and Tin Drum are fine albums in this world. Innovation, stylish melodies, and David Sylvian's voice and Mick Karn's Bass playing which were often-imitated but never duplicated.

I haven't made enough posts to put up links but here are some good underrated 80s new wave and/or synthpop songs:
Missing Persons - "Walking in L.A."
Soft Cell - "Sex Dwarf"
The Psychedelic Furs - "Heartbreak Beat"
Alphaville - "Big in Japan"
OMD - "Electricity"
The Cars - "Magic"
Eurythmics - "Here Comes the Rain Again"
New Order - "True Faith"
Depeche Mode - "Everything Counts"
Peter Gabriel - "Shock the Monkey"
Duran Duran - "Planet Earth"
Platinum Blonde - "It Doesn't Really Matter"

I always overlooked Shock The Monkey in Peter Gabriel's back catalogue... but now that I think about it, it's a pretty ace song! Gotta listen to it soon...

Hey! I haven't listened to Erasure in YEARS!!!! So I listened to "A Little Respect" again to remind myself because I actually forgot this duo existed until reading your post. I used to listen to them a lot in the 80s! Now I'm going to listen to more of their music to remind myself of what they sing.

Today my child found my old Erasure tape from the 80s, which made me think again about their songs. This next song gives me a weird feeling because I remember listening to it intently when I was a teen, when the song felt much deeper than it seems to me now...

...but I still like it! :)

Erasure - "Sometimes"
