Willow Smith

I guess some mod deleted the old thread about her that's why I couldn't find it but anyways here is her new song

thoughts?

I feel like it's even more catchy than "whip my hair" I can't wait to see the video for it whenever that comes out.

Ben Butler 02-28-2011 01:40 PM

I prefer "Whip My Hair". The girl is incredibly talented considering her age!

FETCHER. 02-28-2011 01:44 PM

I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate her. I could scream some more relevant **** down a mic if I tried.

djchameleon 02-28-2011 01:50 PM

I think the main reason I like her is because of the people she has backing her production. She's got Jay-z working with her and some other noteworthy productions. I'm barely paying attention to her lyrics. I can't deny that her songs are super catchy and i'm loving it. Im wishing her the best of success.

clutnuckle 02-28-2011 01:57 PM

The Smith kids are too confident. It's what you'd expect when you have a father like theirs. A man of his caliber and respect is definitely going to inject some sort of pomposity into his children. Or, if we want to be a bit less cynical, their father likely inspires them to achieve greatness.

And I'm sorry, but I really don't think music should be the avenue through which they get to greatness. Fathomable, sure, but almost all music is fathomable. Even though their father got his start that way, I still admit that I listen to "Parents Just Don't Understand" every once in a while with the music video and laugh my ass off... We should really stop telling children that they can do anything.

Although her songs came on at a party once and I was in the ****ing mood. Maybe I'm just grumpy in the sober state... BWTE.

djchameleon 02-28-2011 02:03 PM

Well she's going to be doing a cover/remake of "Parents just don't understand" for her album

I think it's both parents....Will and Jada Pinkett they both have strong type A personalities and it oozed over into their kids. So now their son is going the actor/rapper route and the daughter is doing this stuff.

cherrymusic 03-06-2011 06:40 PM

i saw a video of willow recording the video to 21st century girl. I wish i was in the video

marina monteiro 03-14-2011 07:14 AM

she is quite talented - for her age - eheheh i though whip my hair would get anoying - well it hasnt - and loving the new one

solsupreme 03-23-2011 12:53 AM

she is alright but i think she is a little over rated

The Virgin 03-23-2011 01:25 AM

cute little lady

djchameleon 03-23-2011 04:17 AM

I love how the video for 21st century girl turned out.

really kul actually

djchameleon 03-23-2011 07:41 AM

I wish they would have showcased more of the little girl in the purple dancing. The one that has the balloons in her hair. You can tell she's an excellent dancer but she didn't get enough time imo.

i honestly can't stand her. whether knowingly or not, (i'd wager not), she represents the destruction of the ideals that her father struggled towards; legitimacy amongst your peers, artistic output that actually reflects the artist, and working for your fame, as opposed to being born into it.

she can't help that she was born into it though.

Also, right now she is still young so she will be using the assistance of the connections that her father and mother have in the industry but you never know what her future holds for her. She may be able to branch out and become her own person and change her style somewhat to showcase that she really has talent.

let's cut her some slack. she's a kid. let her have fun. it's not like she's singing "Friday".

Typical. While ripping on one teen pop star, you go and rip on another teen pop star in the process.

ashlynking 04-02-2011 10:31 AM

i feel bad for her. She's getting waaaaaay to much exposure too quickly. It's only her second single and the whole setting is too produced for someone who just got into the music industry. she needs to be a kid, she'll wish she did if she keeps this up.

how is she NOT being a kid?

I'm tired of people bringing this up....just because she isn't being a boring ass childhood like you and I doesn't mean she isn't getting to be a kid.

This.

The Smith kids are not comparable to the rest of us, they were born into stardom so its all they know. They wont have experienced the mandanity of life for the likes of us, and even that their parents would have experienced. They have the right parents in Will Smith and Jada Pinkett to keep them grounded though, both seem very humble about what they have, Will Smith in particular seems to appreciate that its taken him years of hard work to get where he is now. Thats not a lesson he'll just forget to teach his kids.

nope not ripping... but i ain't going on the "industry is abusing children" discussion. i will assume that all of us here have done their research and have a strong opinion on that.

but nope... not ripping the children because they are children.

i will never assume bad things. i will assume people are intelligent, that's my default. until proven otherwise. and that will never change. sorry. if that makes me an ass, i have no problem with that.

and there are things i will not talk about, banter or no banter.

You come to musicbanter and you don't want to banter? Tell me, does that make sense to you?

And if you don't want to talk about things, why bring them up in the first place.

I got no beef with Willow Smith. For some reason the last few days, Whip My Hair has been stuck in my head and I've been humming it. Especially the part where she says (I think) "I'll get more shine in a little bit blah blah, blah blah blah." She's a young girl, making pop music, nothing to hate in my opinion.

The same people who criticize the Smiths would probably absolutely love being their child and growing up with huge advantages and being a pop star as a pre-teen. I don't see anything wrong with it and she's way more talented than her brother in my opinion.

It's not generally the music I listen to, but I do think that it takes a lot of guts for people her age to put themselves into the public eye (specifically music critics). I commend her for that at least. I would never be able to do that. And I can level with you on that. I get Baby stuck in my head at random times. I don't hate that song, because it's so god damn catchy.

meh im whipping my hair to her song right now lol

I just read an interview with Willow Smith by Teen Vogue.
What I love is that she doesn't try to act or talk like an adult, you can tell just by her answers that she still thinks like a kid, they encompassed that in the interview.
She's allowed to do what she wants (to a certain degree) with her wardrobe, but she still live the life of a child.
Her songs are those of a child.
And because of that, they're enjoyable.

That's my input for now.
I know there was no argument or anything, that's just my reaction after having read the interview.

NGPercussion 05-22-2011 02:24 AM

Personally, I've only heard the Whip My Hair song and it is freaking annoying. Can't stand it.

But she is a kid. I guess it's still better than Kesha.

I find Williow Smith's music crap, but of course she is only 11 (?) Whilst Ke$ha is just bullocks in general and she can't go with the age excuse.

Prefer her Whip My Hair song personally.

Still got talent for such a young girl.

that_dude 10-02-2011 06:24 PM

Willow is just having fun

I'd say that willow could say whatever she wanted and it would hit, her parents have enough juice for anything.

sopsych 10-03-2011 12:55 PM

Her singing is okay, and she has stage presence. There have been worse child acts.
