"**** You" is a middle-of-the-road, mildly catchy pop song that's a thinly-veiled stab at women who have the NERVE to not give a **** about some guy who was obsessed with them. How vile. How DARE she not just suck you off in the hallway so you can forget about her the next day; why can't she just be the whore you want her to be? Probably because she actually is a whore, just not for you... Yeah... That works. Maybe I'll sleep sound tonight.

note to self: grow up, become famous, call up this girl and harass her for not being my girlfriend in grade 5

Thom Yorke 03-25-2011 09:40 PM

Never understood why this song didn't turn into a massive hit. Probably the drug reference, if you wanna interpret it that way.

Queen Boo 03-25-2011 09:41 PM

Ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

**** You isn't the only song that is in his album.
Also, your analysis of the song is way off base imo. He's talking about a girl that is a straight up gold digger. I don't see how you got all that extra crap out of it if you actually listened to the song.

One song does not make an artist.

He is also part of Gnarls Barkley if you didn't know and he was also part of Goodie mob

This is my fave song of his from his solo efforts

One of my favorite Gnarls Barkley tunes

Goodie Mob joints....loved this one.

... Did I ever say it was? Please, enlighten me. He still wrote and/or performed the song, and intended for it to be released into the public.

I see you driving around town
With the girl I love
And I'm like, "**** you!"

aka: HOW DARE SOMEBODY ELSE BE ****ING THIS CHICK WHAT THE ****

I guess the change in my pocket
Wasn't enough
I'm like, "**** you

aka: **** YOU BITCH... YOU CAN'T BE BOUGHT WITH MONEY?!?! THIS IS RIDICULOUS, WOMEN SHOULD WAIT ON ME HAND AND FOOT AND TREAT ME LIKE A GOD EVEN IF I HAVE NO TALENT

I said, if I was richer, I'd still be with you
Ha, now ain't that some ****?
(Ain't that some ****?)

aka: SHE MUSTA DUMPED ME CAUSE SHE'S RICH FELLAS OMG WHAT A ****ING GOLD DIGGING ****

Examples like that run through the damn song - it's misogynistic trash thinly veiled as a catchy pop song so that virgin teenagers won't feel bad about feeling in the exact same way as Cee-Lo.

I liked a Barkley single I heard a few years back, but that was mainly due to the production.

What I got from that line is that he thinks she cheated on him because she's driving around the town with another guy he knows possibly a friend of his.

Since, he says change he's implying that the guy in this story, yes it is a story whether you choose to realize that or not. the guy in this story works a minimum wage job and isn't able to afford the lifestyle that the girl wants so that's why she left him.

I think it is she said, If I was richer, I'd still be with you. which goes back to her being a gold digger. She only dumped him because she wasn't satisfied with the lifestyle that they had and wants better.

It's only misogynistic because that's the way you interpret it

you didn't have to say it, it was implied by the tone of your post. Which now I'm gathering that you just straight up don't like him and think he has no talent

Evidence that you just straight up don't like him

Ben Butler 03-26-2011 01:06 PM

I love Cee Lo Green!

EvilChuck 03-26-2011 01:30 PM

I havent heard too much of his stuff outside of whats been on the radio, but what I have heard I didnt really like. His voice does absolutely nothing for me, I find it more annoying if anything in all honesty.

stephen1181 03-26-2011 01:57 PM

I can't help but think FU is just a great catchy song, and I try not to take it that seriously. But then again it does help get you in that emotion of thinking sometimes you just want to tell that to someone. Maybe a past girlfriend or someone who you thought was a friend.

clutnuckle 03-26-2011 04:37 PM

A lot of loop holes in everything you said, but this is what gets me:

Quote:

It's misogynistic because he's acting like a ****ing misogynist. There's no 'interpretation' to it.

Oh good lord. I see your problem... You're like an Ernest Hemingway fan, likely an aspiring English literature student, hoping that EVERYTHING I write has some sort of understated message to it. Here's a tip: when people write stuff, that's usually what they mean. You're clearly not in possession of the analytical skills to deconstruct anything I've ever posted.

Wow, he makes a ****ty song but I enjoy the production? And "Evidence"? Haha, what, are you trying to use pretentious essay lingo to make yourself sound intelligent now, too?

Everything that you have an opinion on is based on your interpretation of the lyrics but whatever I guess you don't realize that.

you can take your tip and shove it. :finger:

I know exactly what I'm talking about even though you choose to not even understand what I was saying and decide to insult me for it. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

The only reason I said "evidence" because all throughout your post, you are like prove I said this and prove I said that like it's some sort of court case.

Queen Boo 03-26-2011 06:18 PM

Clutnuckle, I don't think its mysogionistic. Can't a woman do a man wrong? Is Alanis Morisette a man hater because she wrote a song bitching about Uncle Joey?
Fuck the gender binary.
EDIT: I kept thinking about it and I realize that we as a culture love **** like this from both genders. Isn't this what Taylor Swift has built her entire career on? I don't know. Perhaps I'm biased because I like the song, I like the guy who sings it, and I like Gnarls Barkley but I don't think its sexist.

Yes, I'm the ignorant one when you're clearly a zealous English student who thinks they actually have some sort of original ability to deconstruct the thoughts of others because their teacher wrote "Good work!" on their grade 10 Hamlet essay. How's that for interpretation?

Oh, I perfectly understand the 'time and place' aspect of demeaning another gender - if I was against it, I wouldn't have sat through an entire Geto Boys album yesterday. But what Cee-Lo has done here is the worst branch of that whole sexist bull**** - he's veiled his disdain in the form of a 'LOOK AT ME! I'M THE VICTIM' song, which is just sad. At least 2 Live Crew were truly doing their **** for jokes.

I'm afraid I can't do that. My English teacher hasn't taught me how to do that yet.

I wouldn't have to attempt to deconstruct your thoughts if you'd just own up to the fact that you hate Cee Lo-Green and that you have some warped sense of entitlement where you feel like you are better than me for whatever reason.

If that is your interpretation of me then fine. It's part of your opinion but it's way off base just like how you interpreted Cee Lo's lyrics. I was pretty sure that his lyrics were simplistic and didn't leave much room for open interpretation but I'm wrong in that aspect because you have your mind set on this whole misogynistic theme that clearly isn't there imo.

Sansa Stark 03-26-2011 11:01 PM

I like this exchange more than I like Cee-Lo Green

ThePhanastasio 03-26-2011 11:03 PM

Cee Lo is able to achieve catchy pop hits in addition to being legitimately talented. I respect the Hell out of the man.

Antonio 03-27-2011 10:31 AM

definitely a man who enjoys making music rather than just hits imo

ashlynking 04-02-2011 10:42 AM

the FU song is good and funny but I'm not going out to buy is album or anything just yet. but i like what i'm hearing so far.
