one interview where she says she considers herself a feminist: Beyoncé: The multi-talented star reveals what she is planning next | Mail Online

some have said that she sort of says it, but not really. Beyonce now as many critics of her have pointed out, has done the whole half naked, dancing in wet skin tight clothes... provocative dances and all that, that one may say is no more than exploiting a sexist male fantasy.. which i can see and agree with. That to me is not how Beyonce started out. There was an element of sexuality, but it was not as openly kinda sleazy as it is now.

Compare the Beyonce of old to the Beyonce of new and you can see how one can take on this view.

Yeah but first of all, it's not acting, and second of all it's not taking away from her talent.

but you are not really addressing what I am saying.

honestly though, her talent was pretty minimal. Even lyrically she was never all that much above average.. if it was even above at all. average is about all she can get. Lyrically songs like "Bootylicious", "Bugaboo" or "Surviver" were barely above cliche and predictable. She did have a decent voice though, but her lyrically ability was nothing to write home about. They were usually pretty laughable.

Her solo output was nothing to write home about either. Pretty medicore stuff, as was Destiny's Child. The music itself was pretty unoriginal and uninspried stuff, even by mainstream pop standards.

In that regard, her output was more less a high rent version of what you see on American Idol.. though she did write her own lyrics i suppose, which as said before were not very good.

Pop music is now mostly image based, so the image is what is going to be what sells more in this case.

So yeah...

So her voice isn't what makes her talented?

See, that's what I'm getting everytime, so that's why I'm addressing that.

It is like American Idol... yeah, some of them have good voices, which is a gift... but can that alone carry somebody along as an artist.. is that all it takes. Many popstars have a good voice, of course... Rubben Studderd had a good voice.. but in reality, that was all... and after a while of hearing it it is just... alright.. you can sing well, good for you. A good range may carry you, but once people get tired of it, they will forget you altogether... unless there is a lot of growth as an artist and you can evolve.. which Beyonce never really has.. she has relied on the same thing everytime... so no growth and no evolution... hell even Christina Aguilera branched out and took chances as time went on, and I think she is a more talented musician. "Back to Basics" is better than anything beyonce ever put out..

Celine Dion is another case of this, yeah, she has a great range and a powerful voice, but how often do you hear about her anymore?

having a good voice alone isnt a symbol of talent.

I will take somebody with limited range, who can write something good over somebody with great range who is just a voice anyday.

In the DC days it was more about being a positive role model for young girls, and showing them in a time when sexuallity was being used so much to sell, that one can still rely on talent and not just sell based on sex appeal.

beyonce was sexy and a sex symbol, but i do not think she intended to be one like that, she was made one by the people.. and it was not her original intent.. at least not to the degree it became later.

However, it seemed once she went solo and even more so when Jay-Z came into the equasion that that shifted and she started dressing down more and relying more on sexual imagery than she did before. She still had talent in many regards, but it was also starting to become more and more about the sexuality behind it that was selling her in her videos.

That is all i meant with my comment. To go from that young woman with feminist ideas and being sexy without being overtly sexual, to the opposite later. Makes me think maybe the early image was a put on for the later image which was maybe what she was more about, but was just saying she wasnt for the sake of appearing to be more of a role model than she actually was.
omfg what are you TALKING ABOUT? you give off the appearance that you follow Beyonce's career heavily but obviously not enough.

Her mother designs her outfits and they have ALWAYS been sexy but subtle. she wouldn't want her daughter wearing something completely trashy so I don't know where you get this idea that she is more overtly sexual than she was in the past.

Second, have you heard her latest single? GIRLS who run the world or w/e? how is that NOT female empowerment?

I agree with this but I wouldn't equate that towards beyonce though

Perfect example. I mostly hate feminism and I despise that song, but that's a great example.
