The Carpenters
I couldn't find another thread about The Carpenters, so I decided to make one!
Apologizes if there is one that I never stumbled across.
Are there any fans of their music here?
My personal favorite songs are (They Long to Be) Close to You, Ave Maria, Now, Ticket to Ride, Superstar, The Rainbow Connection, Nowhere Man, and quite a few more :D

I feel like they're famous enough that I should be able to think of a song they've made, but I'm coming up blank. I'm sure when I think of it, I'll slap my forehead.

I haven't thought about The Carpenters since the late '70's. I'll bet Karen's all old and fat now.

I love all the top ten Carpenters songs everyone else likes. My 11th all time favorite Carpenters song would be "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft."

The Japs love The Carpenters. I'd never even heard of them until I moved here. Every Jap listens to them in junior-high school English class.

^ That's interesting! Karen Carpenter ennunciates lyrics very clearly, so I imagine Carpenter songs are pretty popular with English-language teachers everywhere. For that purpose, the songs are also slow enough to sing along to, and the words relate to the universally popular theme of love; a good choice for the language classroom.
I'm not much of a fan, but I was impressed when I read once that they are credited with inventing the "power ballad," which perhaps refers to this song,
" a Carpenter/Bettis original with a gritty guitar solo by Tony Peluso, released on June 13, 1972" :-
