As the title. They're defined as the same thing yet asked to be kept seperate, but why?

I always thought bubblegum was confined mainly to the manufactured pop groups of the late sixties like the Ohio Express and the 1910 Fruitgum Company. Generally it would have an organ based sound and some of the most syrupy lyrics imagined. I guess teen pop falls in just about every other era (The teen idols of the fifties/early sixties, the seventies pop of the Osmonds and Jackson 5, and I guess whatever came after that.

Interesting note: Tommy James and the Shondells was considered bubblegum until he finally broke out of that mold with Crimson and Clover.

Bubblegum pop music is basically, well basically AM pop music that is aimed towards children.
They are mainly popular in the late 60s and early 70s, and some notable groups from that era included the Ohio Express, 1910 Fruitgum Company, Banana Splitz, and the Archies.

Teen Pop on the other hand, is pop music that is mainly aimed at teens, and has been popular since the 70s.

The thing I always found slightly creepy about Bubblegum was that it seemed to be aimed at pre-teens, yet the lyrics often contained themes of teenage romance, with lots of references to kissing. "Yummy yummy yummy" sounds like something a five-year-old would sing, yet there is mention of hugging, kissing and holding. Let the kids have a childhood, I say. They'll grow up soon enough.
