Trying to find song from 60's/70's(?)
 

Hi all. The song I'm trying to identify was from the late 60's, early 70's, maybe early 80's, as I heard it in the 80's. I don't know the artist or remember any of the lyrics. I know it was a male singer. I've posted it in Country songs but it may have been a pop song.

A man is driving along a road at night and sees a young girl walking along the side of the road. He decides to stop and drive her home. When he gets to her house he knocks on the door and a woman answers. He explains about picking up the girl, turns to the car and she's gone. The woman says this happens on the same night every year - the girl was walking home but was hit and killed by a car, so her spirit still tries to make the same journey.

It's been annoying me on and off for years that I can't find it! I've tried many albums, playlists, etc, but just haven't come across it since.

Based on your description of the video I'd say it's unlikely to be from the 60's, probably late 70's at the earliest. Otherwise I can't help you out any more. You'd have to describe something more about the song.
