Default Pop Hits from the 80s

They just refuse to die. Every popular song from the 80s worms it's way onto some mix album or, often worse, is covered. In the real world, it can be quite hard to escape them so why should Musicbanter be any different?

Present here one song and write a bit about it. The only requirement is - it has to have been a hit in the 80s.

I'll go first with Falco's classic "Der Kommisar". Except Hitler, Falco is the only famous austrian person in modern history. The song that catapulted him to international stardom was this amazingly catchy tune which I think is about drug dealers .. or something. Since it has rapping in it, I guess you could say Falco is also Austria's original gangsta and indeed, Bloodhound Gang paid tribute to the dead legend in their song Mope .. Not that I like it, but it's trivia.

Falco tragically died in a car accident in 1998, may he rest in peace.

Alles klar herr Kommisar!

What about Arnold Ze Terminator?

Speaking about Austrian dance music (not that you were speaking about it, just that you had mentioned Austria and dance in the same thread), here is a little ditty from the eighties.

Known more as one of those "stick in your head" tunes. The band was Edelweiss, an Austrian dance/electronica band. Was quite popular for a while.

Who remembers this abomination?
Personifies all that was wrong with the worst of the 80's music sound.

Great, just great .. We have an 80s thread that's surprisingly full of win until David comes along

I'm gonna try and remedy it with ZZ Top's Sharp Dressed Man from 1983. Couldn't find the video though, this performance is a bit more recent.

Sorry. I really couldn't help it.
Despite the vast amounts of great music that the 80's had I still can't get past thinking about that song everytime the 80's are mentioned.

It could have been worse...I could have included Soft Cell.
