The Mars Volta

So, anyone out there listen to them. They used to be at the drive in, who were awesome, but they are better in this band, or at least i think so. Great mod-prog. I deem it worthy. How about you?

hettie 01-28-2004 08:15 PM

yeah, the mars volta are amazing, there is a whole sad story behind their album

have you heard anything by sparta, they are the other members of atdi

i saw them at glasto, rocked my socks!

JackJeckel 01-28-2004 08:22 PM

Oh GOD I hate the ****ing Mars Volta. Seriously, they're almost as whored out by the mainstream media as the ****ing Strokes as some kind of saviors of modern rock when it's just the same prog crap that I've been hearing since 19 ****ing 80.

Plus I saw them live and they were beyond annoying.

I'm in a bad mood today (Y)

hettie 01-28-2004 08:23 PM

what music do you actually like then?!

banonbush 01-29-2004 08:23 AM

That, and I haven't heard to much on the Mars Volta in the media (unless you are counting underground publications, which in that case, doesn't count) And it's not like it matters if you like them anyway, just as it doesn't matter that I do like them. They write music that's simply amazing and that's all that matters. Sparta isn't too bad, but I like At the Drive-In and the Mars Volta more.

I love the Mars Volta. I bought their cd and its just mindblowing. Jack Jeckel, you dont have much positive output on anything do you?

Sparta went too softy-whiny emo. Mars Volta just forged ahead and kickass now. There IS a sad story behind their album. Its essentially the reason that ATDI broke up in the first place. A friend of Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez's, Julio Venegas fell into a coma after shooting rat poison into his arm. After he awoke from the coma, he chose to kill himself anyways. The album "De-Loused In The Comatorium" is suppose to be like a story/portrait of that time to honor the memory of their friend. And its absolutley ****ing amazing. At this point in time I can't think of a band I'd rather see live. I can't believe I missed this thread too. They are an essential band.

And TMV definately is not overhyped by the media. I've seen them on Much all of ONCE.

Besides, is it so hard to believe that a band can be so critically acclaimed because.. dare I speak it.. they're actually GOOD??

jibber 06-21-2004 06:56 PM

love them, didn't know the whole story behind the album though, wow. and by the way, I really don't see where you're coming from by saying they're way too over hyped in the media. as far as I know, the media barely gives them any hype whatsoever. care to expand on that statement jeckel?

Eltiraaz 06-22-2004 01:45 PM

Sorry about that last post if anyone felt attacked by it.. I was in a pissy mood. But I still think they're an absolutley amazing band.

Jackjekel your an idoit, TMV are not over board casted by mainstream, they're not even close to mainstream, and in concert they're at they're best. Oh, annd they're music is not 1980-ish it's more a mix of zeppelin, floyd, and some latin jazz.

anyway, de-loused is totally good and the story behind is totally sad and crazy. but to fully grasp TMV you gotta hear them in concert, I mean they turn 6 min songs into like 30 min songs thats prety damn crazy

Sleepsnekkid 06-27-2004 06:34 PM

TMV rocked out, and I like Sparta and ATDI just the same.
