I saw that and decided to get it, now I'm almost halfway through and it really impressed me already!
I haven't really heard much psych yet, but I have some Jefferson Airplane records for some time now, and getting into it more and more

I already love Private Sorrow
and ballon burning is great aswell

Me personally, I class "Freak Out" well the the more experimental stuff on the album as experimental rock. You hear strong jazz and avant influences. The Return of the Son of Monster Magnet sounds wild and Alvin and the Chipmunks at the end? lol

As for the Beatles the Anthology version of "Norwegian Wood" that sounds like the start of their psychedelic sound. I never got the American connection to be honest. I think their biggest American influences where the Byrds, Dylan and the Beach Boys but I don't really hear their influence on the Beatles psychedelic sound.

Totally forgot about Skip Spence, I've been listening to Oar all day. Imagine if he'd actually got to hack Moby Grape to bits, the album would never have been made

I already upped Moby Grape but didnt get round to Skip Spence.

I didnt look to see if i could find a link out there already to be honest but if theres links out there then cool. I dont mind doing it though as I never know when giving people pre existing links if its gonna be a pile of **** or the tags are gonna be screwed, you know, things that piss me off :)

Freak Out is pretty great. I'd say it's more experimental/avant garde rock/doo wop/blues than psychedelic.
