German progressive/space-rock band.
Symphonic space-rock would be a good description of their music.

Just a summary of what I've listened to (I'll note only the albums worth checking out)-

Inside(1973) is more of a krautrock album without much of the Symphonic elements. It's completely psychedelic/space rock, with awesome use of organs and there's even a touch of...Jethro Tull?(well, actually, most of their music have some similarities with Jethro Tull/Pink Floyd)

Power and the Passion(1975) is a concept album about time traveling. It's more of 70s progressive rock, mixed with their own touch of psychedelic/space rock. There are some superb solos as well but the album as a whole doesn't seem complete. Definitely worth listening to though.

Dawn(1976), Ocean(1977) & Silent Cries And Mighty Echoes(1979) for me was the best part of their music. Ocean especially is a must listen. It's a concept album about the rise and fall of Atlantis, and keeping that in mind, the music suits it perfectly. The keyboards create a superb atmosphere. Epic, Spacey & melodic. The concept and the music get along wonderfully. The keyboards and the bass are the main attraction here...with the guitar just playing a supporting role.

Planets(1981) is my second favorite...after oceans. The music really takes you for a journey. Sounds very futuristic with catchy melodies all over. The keyboards, again, are the highlights here. Definitely one of their best. Time To Turn(1982) is also similar to planets. The first half is really great, but the last two tracks weren't all that good. But on a whole, an 8/10 from me.

They have had numerous line-up changes, and that may account for some of their mediocre releases. I haven't given much of their 80s/90s material a listen yet, but what I've heard is that they aren't that good. Still need to get Ocean 2(which was their last known release...and supposedly a good one)

Contains only planets/Time to Turn/some other track which i don't recognize. Theirs 70s material is missing there.

They definitely sound like the sort of band I want to check out. Easily attainable?

Eloy is excellent. Planets is so incredibly epic. And their accents tickle me.

I'm loving the keyboard breakdown in 'mysterious monolith' from 'Planets'. It is a little more commercial than I thought and seems to be more in classic Rock territory. However I still like it. It's good to get back to basics and hear some good Rock music for a change.

Well, German and Space-Rock can kinda be misleading.
Like i said, symphonic space-rock might be a better description. Their 70s material have some similarities with pink floyd...and that's the only little bit commercial kinda thing i can hear in them.(which i don't mind at all :D)

Yeah Eloy is awesome, the Pink Floyd comparisons are certainly appropriate.

so is their early stuff a little more groovy and less commercial? (Hoping).

You will definitely love Inside then.
Something like Pink Floyd's Piper, mixed with the hard-rock of Uriah Heep and some krautrock influences. Psychedelic, but a lot less commercial as well. It's more hard rocking than, say, ambient.
But the organ is the centre of attraction here.

I would say Ocean is pretty atmospheric as well...although kinda symphonic. The concept and the musicianship are superb.

Still might sound commercial but depends on how you look at it though. Anything with noticeable Pink Floyd influences sounds a bit commercial to me...but sometimes It doesn't bother me. I think PF's Meddle era might be a better description of this. There's also a totally weird track in the middle of the album, which sounds like a crazy remix of Jethro Tull's 'Aqualung'. I don't know where they pulled that out from. It's the only track where the organ wasn't used. I mean, just listen to this.
