RIVERSIDE
http://static.metal-archives.com/ima...6437_photo.jpg

This progressive Rock/Metal band hail from Poland although singer/main songwriter Mariusz Duda sings in English. If you are a fan of Porcupine Tree and need a fix of something similar then Riverside are for you. While not as technically competent or eclectic as PT, they are a good solid band who rely on Duda's emotive voice rather than any particular band members superior musicianship. If for some reason you have never heard of Porcupine Tree, then fans of latter day Pink Floyd should like what they do.

Tracklisting:
1. Beyond The Eyelids
2. Rainbow Box
3. Out Of Myself
4. Conceiving You
5. Dna Ts. Rednum or F.Rag
6. Back To The River (checkout the blatant Pink Floyd rip in the final third)
7. Second Life Syndrome
8. Loose Heart
9. Artificial Smile
10. The Curtain Falls
11. Ultimate Trip
12. Before.

Scott-any chance you can upload the DH comp to sendspace or MU? I can't do Mediafire for some reason and I want to listen to it!

Demonoid 09-24-2008 02:34 AM

Since no one bothered to reply here, i might as well bump it :p:
Their guitarist sure does know how its done. Creates an awesome atmosphere when combined with the powerful vocals and some great bass lines.(rather loud, which I actually like)
I think anyone who likes Pink Floyd should check them out...even non-metal fans would like this. Very melodic...like a metal version of pink floyd.

Seltzer 09-24-2008 02:54 AM

Hmmm, I don't know how this only has one reply, but anyway... Riverside is great. I'd agree with them being a metal version of Pink Floyd - the guitarwork is very Gilmourish.

Demonoid 09-24-2008 02:57 AM

Well, Views also shows 3..
Think something is wrong

jackhammer 09-26-2008 03:40 PM

I think the fact that Riverside are musically unadventurous puts people off but what they do, they do extremely well. i'm just a closet prog head and proud of it :)

Demonoid 09-28-2008 04:26 AM

I know they aren't all that original, but there's just something about their music that clicks...I think it's the vocals/atmosphere, but even the instrumentals like 'Reality Dream I, II & III' are really good.(should have included one of those in the comp. :p:)

jackhammer 12-31-2008 06:34 PM

Oh c'mon. You know Jackhammer uses Emotional vibes against originality. A brilliant band that deserve so much more exposure. No pretension, just good Prog tunes and no drawn out vibes.

The same with me :)

I know Riverside little bit longer period than Porcupine Tree and I love them too. Some people say they aren't original, hmm... But their music is attractive for me and this is the important thing :p:
My fave albums are Out of myself and live album Reality Dream. Third place is for new CD Anno Domini High Definition.
I love songs The Same River and Reality dream II. Than also O2 Panic Room, Schizophrenic Prayer, Hyperactive and I Believe.

Do you know also Lunatic Soul?

I love it too. It's another project of M. Duda, mixture of ambient and progressive music without electric guitars. Duda himself calls the sound “oriental-alternative”.
Some people like it more than Riverside because it's more original. Yes, it is. But if you like Riverside, you should try it and I think you will like Lunatic Soul too. And if you don't like Riverside, try it too - it's different so you may like it :D
That's a pity that this project is (meanwhile) only one album.
I can't post links yet but they have MySpace and they have lot of songs on Youtube, you can find it.
My favourite songs are Lunatic Soul and The New Beginning.

Seltzer 01-08-2010 05:06 AM

So what's their new album like?

Anno Domin? Damn good. Slightly different approach but leaves you wanting more as it's only an E.P.

To Petula:

Never heard of Lunatic Soul but I will certainly check them out!

If you love Riverside, you really should check them :hphones:

I know from the first time with Riverside about Lunatic Soul thanks to Last.fm.

mrguy 02-28-2010 07:54 PM

Listening to them on Myspace, and liking what i hear.

Where would be a good place to start?

Out of Myself :)

Out of Myself is their first album, easier than others, probably more catchy...
Lot of fans say their best album si the new one Anno Domini High definition. It's little bit more complicated music. But I recommend to listen to their albums in order how they released it and you can hear some development.

If you like Riverside, try also Lunatic Soul. It's solo project of Riverside singer Mariusz Duda. It's only one album with name Lunatic Soul and this year Lunatic Soul II will be released.

mrguy 03-01-2010 12:42 PM

Oh okay, cheers.

That reminds me of Steven Wilson having Blackfield and Blackfield II

Petula07 03-01-2010 02:34 PM

Yeah, but Lunatic Soul isn't pop-rock, it's more atmospheric and experimental.

I wasn't comparing them that directly:p

Petula07 03-02-2010 04:04 PM

Ok, I got the point now :D Sorry.

Karantos 03-29-2010 01:39 AM

Anyone has their new album ?

I expect he wants to know about it...

Actually, I do too...
What can you tell us?

Ok :)

Well, I am not an expert for progressive rock so this will be just my opinion.
So what to say about Anno Domini High Definition?
In my opinion they tried to make little bit more complicated album. When you compare it with their first release Out of myself, this is different. Out of Myself is catchy in a way that it has easier melodies. This new album has 5 longer tracks. For me it's my fave together with album Out of Myself. Some people say that ADHD is their best album. Well, maybe - you can try and make your own opinion.

I guess all tracks are on Youtube, here I post first track:

mrguy 01-25-2011 02:43 AM

I finally got Out of Myself... Been listening to it repetitively for a few days. So good. Going to get the rest of the discography. Quick question; Does Reality Dream I exist? :p

Anyone have Lunatic Soul II? I have the first one, and it's nice, but doesn't do a lot for me... Although, I love one of the piano riffs (I think it was on Summerland).

Jeff Allen 01-26-2011 08:24 PM

The way the keyboards and guitars blend with each other is the main reason Riverside always keeps me coming back. Their album Rapid Eye Movement was the first work of theirs I had heard, and I fell in love with it. The backing keyboards seem just seem to throw me into a trance every time I hear them and I can't get enough.

Yes, I have.
If first one is not so much your thing, the second album probably won't be too. It's more mellow. But it has really nice atmosphere for me. I love both albums. Even second little bit more.

Love this band, one of the most recent bands i've gotten into lately. Still looking into adding some of their discography to my collection, but so far i've just been listening to them via youtube or last.fm

One of the first songs I heard from them:

Has a very mellow feel to it, especially with the vocals. Instantly got me hooked.

jackhammer 09-05-2015 07:11 PM

Anyone checked out their newie Love Fear and the Time Machine released yesterday? It's probably their most chilled so far but after 3 listens it still isn't grabbing me :(

Chula Vista 09-05-2015 08:02 PM

HUGE fan of this band. Own every album and EP.

Will wait on your followup review before grabbing the new one.

Seriously, one of my fave bands on the planet right now.

phuqawi 12-19-2015 03:32 PM

Thanks for the Riverside tip, could be a new favorite!

See my Listening List. Good, but kind of so what in a way, which is how I tend to usually feel about Riverside. SONGS was good, but again, y'know....
