So far I've seen no mention of Andersen, Bruford, Wakeman, and Howe, which I believe to be quite an underrated little chestnut.

I think they're decent but in no way stand up to their '70's releases. It's certainly better than Big Generator IMO.

Necromancer 02-18-2014 06:34 AM

One of my friends recommended the album Drama by Yes a couple of years back and it had a couple of songs that were okay, the album itself was disappointing. Fish Out of Water by Chris Squire has always been one of my favorite solo albums. Most all of the members of Yes have solo albums from the 70s that are worth giving a listen. Journey To The Center Of The Earth by Rick Wakeman is a fairly good album. Steve Howe has always been one of my favorite guitarist and he might be a little underrated in the polls in my opinion.

rockinlazys 03-05-2014 06:08 PM

I went with CTTE because I still give it a spin every year or so. There was a time in the 70's that I really loved YES. The last great YES show I saw was the Going For The One tour. The In The Round tour was so-so and that was in 78 or 79. I did not see another Yes show until 99 (?) at the Warfield in SF with Howe, Squire, Anderson, Wakeman and not sure who sat behind the kit? It was fun but not earth shaking. By far the best YES related disc I have heard in years is Steve Howe" Portraits of Bob Dylan ". The guitar work is masterful with a splendid mix of Tommorow and YES. It also boasts vocals by P.P Arnold, Annie Haslem, Phoebe Snow, Keith West among others. But the main reason I am posting is because I have meet folks that saw the 77 tour at different venues and we all agree that weirdness followed that tour.It was not your usual Walk on the Rings of Saturn ! It was the shows with Donovan opening. Any others out there with any reports from the Cosmos?

I'm surprised Close to the Edge doesn't hold the majority of votes...

Ana Kovacheva 07-25-2014 04:07 PM

Close to the Edge

polite zombie 10-12-2014 02:58 PM

I believe the fact that UNION is my favorite Yes album makes me unique among Yes fans.

Trollheart 10-16-2014 01:30 PM

No it doesn't. I like Union, Big Generator and 90125 before all the older albums (though in fairness I've heard very few), also ABWH is as Satchmo says a very underrated masterpiece.

Let the shitstorm begin! :shycouch:

Paul Smeenus 10-16-2014 01:38 PM

It hardly merits a shitstorm, I just disagree.

My rankings here.

Chula Vista 10-16-2014 01:41 PM

Love all of their 70s work but Close to the Edge is my fave.

Love this as well as Fish Out of Water. Just listened to Olias yesterday.

Cool like your taste as well.

Neurotripsicks 04-21-2015 10:45 PM

Relayer is good don't know why it gets neglected!

Close to the Edge for sure though.

Did you know Jon Anderson recorded a song with Tangerine Dream for the Legend soundtrack? Anyone remember that movie with Tom Cruise and Mía Farrow? I always wondered it sounded like Jon and I looked it up the other day and it is! I think it's called Loved By The Sun by Tangerine Dream.

This is the correct answer. Although Fragile and The YEs Album often switch back and forth for me.

grindy 04-27-2015 03:01 PM

Definitely Relayer.
I'm surprised it doesn't get much love here.

Neurotripsicks 05-01-2015 07:17 PM

I love Relayer.

Me too. But Close to the Edge is more fully realized.

I've been rather consistently more fond of The Yes Album myself. Every track is great - no filler. I can't say the same for Fragile, even though they're all thankfully short (Ex. Cans and Brahms, We Have Heaven and Five Per Cent For Nothing).

You know something, I think you are right. From here on out, Fragile comes in 3rd.

Chula Vista 05-02-2015 10:13 AM

On the strength of Roundabout, Heart of the Sunrise, and South Side of the Sky, (not to mention Mood for a Day for us guitar dweebs), Fragile is pretty freaking solid. I guess I'd choose The Yes Album above it too though.

Did ya know that Bachman Turner Overdrive's "Not Fragile" album was based on this?

Bad news for Yes fans. :(
Yes bassist Chris Squire diagnosed with leukemia - Celebrities and Entertainment News

And the type of leukemia he has doesn't sound good. :(

Information on prognosis is limited by the rarity of the condition. Prognosis appears to be no different to AML in general, taking into account other risk factors.[9][10] Acute erythroid leukemia (M6) has a relatively poor prognosis. A 2010 study of 124 patients found a median overall survival of 8 months.[10] A 2009 study on 91 patients found a median overall survival for erythroleukemia patients of 36 weeks, with no statistically significant difference to other AML patients.

See the RIP thread. So sad.

Crashandridemusic 07-30-2015 03:56 PM

It's always been a toss up between Close to the Edge and Fragile. But nothing beats the epic title track "Close to the Edge," so I have to choose that one.

DarthRevan1973 10-16-2015 08:06 AM

I'm forever torn between "Fragile" and "Close to the Edge" -- the former is the more fun and spontaneous album, but the latter's scope and delivery is breathtaking

Unknown Soldier 11-16-2015 01:24 PM

So Yes fans, what do you think of Drama as an album?

I love it! Strange departure but it worked for me.

Steve Howe went wild on that one.

Paul Smeenus 01-08-2016 10:07 PM

I don't love Drama but I like it. I rank the Yes albums here

Dude111 08-24-2018 03:20 AM

I would say Time & A World,Fragile and 90125 are the 3 I like most :)

windsock 09-04-2018 07:54 PM

Drama.

Machine Messiah = best epic Yes made next to Roundabout.

Unitron 09-04-2018 08:30 PM

It's a close race between Fragile and Drama, but Fragile just has the edge.

TomatoLabyrinth 09-10-2018 07:48 PM

Roundabout and Siberia Khatru are my top Yes songs

Made in 1968 07-31-2022 10:35 AM

Has to be between 'The Yes Album' (3rd LP) & 'Fragile'. Im going with 'The Yes Album'.

Queen Boo 07-31-2022 10:47 AM

I have no idea why I left the first album off of this poll, what was I thinking? It's a really solid debut, underrated.

I dunno if I should vote in this poll again because that would be cheating but Close to the Edge is still my favorite album of all time so yeah that one.

It is a great album but if you compare to the likes of King Crimson first LP of the same year its quite behind the door.
