I don't consider Pink Floyd to be prog

Just my 2 cents worth.

I point this out because I have seen a couple polls including them under the prog banner. Moreso, David Gilmour, while clearly a talented guitarist, is primarily a blues-based player. Yes, he plays other scales. But at the end of the day, that style was more common in psychedelic rock than prog.

It's just tough to see Gilmour winning a prog guitarist poll. Anyone who wants to know what prog guitar is all about should listen to early Yes, Genesis, or Gentle Giant. These bands' styles required the guitarist to play everything from jazz to classical and even folk/ragtime acoustic. The genre was about guys whose playing styles would lean toward as many influences as possible.

uh... ok.

Floyd really has their own genre. They're not quite in any one category.

(The Pink Floyd Sound) is progressive and psychedelic rock.
Most members are already very familiar with Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, and so on, (common knowledge). :)

Whatever they are, they sure are an amazing band, and an amazing band to listen to high. =)
