So I went back and listened to "Lonely Lifetime" again and realized that the chorus there has the same style that you mentioned. It`s homely, honest and undramatic:

As you say, it makes a very pleasant change from the over-serious declarations of some artists.

And when the verse is repeated with Richard Sinclair doing his bubbly thing .. Ahh, such beauty :p:

Yes, when the Great Unwashed attempt to barb you with the "pretentious" line just tell them to give a listen to Hatfield lyrics (or Caravan of Dreams).

(Of course, content in their cozy cocoon of self-imposed ignorance, they wont.)
