Default What are the true origins of psych rock?

Lately, I've been really into getting to discover the origins of the psych sounds in popular albums and bands. I feel like I can only refer myself to The Beatles' Sgt. Peppers, Rubber Soul (maybe?), Pink Floyd's debut album and some of the Beach Boys' stuff.

After those records were released, the psych songs from other groups seemed to follow a certain formula that's rather pivotal to the consequent bands and albums that dived into the genre later. But I feel like there's much more to the origins of popular psych rock than just that.

Ravi Shankar and Indian music in general started becoming popular around that time. Much of mid-late 60's psychedelic rock was based on Indian stuff.

Monterrey Pop Festival 1967.
