I gets my music on vinyl with a scratchy stylus on an ancient Bang and Oloufsen, and that's just how I likes it! :D

Have been away for several days but get Trollheart's point here. I think the best idea would be to work through a general list (such as the one below, but it could easily be another list) This list for example includes around 217 album from really well known prog albums to some really lesser known stuff as well. This list could be randomized as well to make it less chronological as it runs from 1969 to 2013.

So therefore we would all be listening to the same album and could do an album a week or every fortnight, it's a huge list so it would take a long time to work through.

I like the way snruB thinks! :)
(In case you don't get it...)

This is something similar to my Progarchives Top 100 of 2013 list idea, but it's probably better as it includes albums from other years too. I'm gonna go have a look at that list now...

Unknown Soldier 02-08-2014 03:32 PM

what's good with a list like this, is that nobody needs to think on which albums to choose.

Trollheart 02-08-2014 07:49 PM

Yep, that's a mighty fine list. I know a lot of those, have a lot of them. Few that aren't on it that I would put on it, but I dig most of his choices. Could be fun indeed.

Anteater 02-08-2014 08:11 PM

Aight, I'm all for it then. Lets see who else is up for it, do a headcount, then get started. :D

Unknown Soldier 02-09-2014 02:13 AM

I guess the best way would be to randomize the list as well, unless people want to go in chronological order.

Trollheart 02-09-2014 05:19 AM

No I agree with randomising. More fun that way. Possibly.
So we have three out of five so far. We just need DJ's opinion and that of the one with the many tails and we're good to go. Pick a random number generator and we can get started asap.

Good call, US!

I suggest that these reviews should also be short so as not to burden anybody and run Sunday to Sunday (so people have a week to listen to the album and give it a rating) so we'll do one album a week.

Also a universal rating out of say 5, For example could be:

5.0- Masterpiece
4.5- Classic
4.0- Great
3.5- Good
3.0- Decent
2.5- Weak
2.0- Poor
1.5- Crap
1.0- Dud

Not that I imagine any albums will get very low ratings here at all.

Also once everybody has given their rating, this should then be given an average overall rating based on how many people have reviewed that album.

As well (Trollheart's good at this) he could quickly brush up a mini review format) that covers the main points for the album, like an album card, that's short and sweet for somebody to fill in easily.

Also the club just needs a core group of at least 3 or so people to make sure they the do the album every week (myself, Trollheart and Anteater) if DJ and anybody else wants to be part of the core group then they're welcome (but the core group should always do their review within the set week it's kind of an obligation and should always do it unless they can't because they're away or ill etc) while others can choose to review which albums they want to as long as they do it when the album is active.

Once again by doing mini reviews the interest should remain high and it'll be easy for people to stay focused and interested without having to invest much time.

So if all agreed Trollheart as he's the boss, can start with the randomiser and put the first album up as it's Sunday.

djchameleon 02-09-2014 06:24 AM

I agree with randomizing that list. For the beginning of it, I will stay on the outskirts of the core group until I get into the habit of keeping up to date with the current album and getting it done within the week. I usually listen to the album but get around to writing a review much later instead of right after listening like I should. I do the same thing with the R&B swap. Listen to the album then like a few days later I will write up something.
