Prog Rock albums of the last 13 years you must hear
Looking to get into some newer prog rock.
Which artists and albums of the last 13 years should I start off with? |
I got into a band called Hypnos 69 back in 2010 when they dropped their album Legacy. It's a real nice throwback to '70's progressive rock without turning into a tribute band. Here's the first song off the album
Porcupine Tree is another good band to look up, but their post-2000 stuff starts to move more and more into alternative rock/metal, but it's still good stuff. |
I was recently listening to the second album by a Swedish band called 'Grovjobb'
It reminds me of some of the early 70's type of prog rock with psychedelic/jazz/folk influences. They have 3 albums out, and after listening to the second album, I'm interested enough to check out their first and third. All 3 albums were released between 1998 and 2001. Here's a link if you want to look into them further... GROVJOBB music, discography, MP3, videos and reviews |

I'd highly recommend Gazpacho from Norway. This is from their "Missa Atropos" album...
|
Toundra: Toundra III (2012). Instrumental prog rock.
|
Universal Totem Orchestra- The Magus (2008)
An absolutely amazing Zeuhl album. |
Oceansize-Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up
|
It's 15 years old if that's ok but Mike Keneally's "Sluggo!"
|
I'd second the above Oceansize mention, Effloresce (sp?) was a climaxing beauty of an album.
